Nothing does more heavy lifting in the area of engagement, retention, loyalty and upgrade into major support than content. It’s the single most powerful asset we have…so why do we sometimes find it difficult to deliver the content that our supporters really want?

We are living in a world where an abundance of available channels and communication frequency make it difficult to get– or keep – attention. We can’t rely on quantity of communication anymore, we have to pay more attention to the quality of our communications to keep our donors engaged. It’s all about the experience that your supporters get from you.

One of the most important insights in growing your donor base is this: if you want people to stay and do more with your organization, YOU have to do more. And one of the ways you can accomplish this is by creating authentic content that adds value to the lives of your supporter, supports who you are and what you do, and really gives them a reason to care.

Content can make the difference to people renewing and people staying on the journey, upgrading and giving in the first place – and it can anchor integration and donor journey’s that deliver legacy support long-term.

Rachel is a fundraising professional with over a decade of experience specialising in individual giving and supporter experience. She has worked at a variety of charities in the UK covering international development, medical causes and hospital charities. She is currently working well as a consultant strategist with US, Canadian and European charities on projects that raise income from individuals, improve supporter experience and donor retention. She was a commissioner for the Commission on Donor Experience in the UK, is an active regional committee member of IOF and is a regular speaker at conferences in the UK, Europe and North America on the subjects of supporter experience and implementing change
