Unconscious bias

There are many forces that shape our opinions and beliefs, which then in turn inform our behaviour, particularly as it relates to valuing diversity.

This session will examine how our perceptions of others are formulated, the entrenchment of bias that may be unconscious and its impact, and finally, how to enhance awareness and reduce the potential for disrespect that bias can engender.

Loreli Buenaventura is a trusted strategic expert in diversity, inclusion, leadership development and holistic health. For the past 20 years, she has advanced the inclusion goals of leading Canadian organizations in the private, public and non-profit sectors at the community, national and global levels. An inspired collaborator, Loreli specializes in inclusive leadership development, change management, innovation and inclusion communications, the latter based on an established early career in media and public relations. Loreli holds a Masters degree in Sociology and Equity Studies from the University of Toronto and is a professional coach completing her Accredited Coach Certification.

Loreli joins CCDI after having led and developed all aspects of RBC’s diversity and inclusion strategic objectives and solutions for Canadian Banking and in partnership with senior executives, Human Resources leaders and their respective leadership teams. Throughout her tenure, she helped launch RBC’s CB Women’s Forum as well as its Indigenous Group Mentoring Program, and most recently worked with business leaders to integrate inclusion, innovation and diversity of thought as a strategic advantage. Prior to RBC, Loreli was in charge of global leadership development at Scotiabank as well as Diversity & Inclusion at KPMG.
Originally from Winnipeg, Loreli currently resides in Toronto where she also supports the overall health, life and career goals of her clients through her private practice in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and professional coaching.
