Spring is Coming, and the Nonprofit Hunger Games are Ending!

The nonprofit sector provides critical services to our world, and yet faces countless challenges, from society’s perception to restricted funding to burnout to crappy chairs. The challenges have been leading to the Nonprofit Hunger Games. But there are hopeful signs that things are changing, from balances in power dynamics, to advances in equity, diversity, and inclusion. Vu will discuss the current state of the nonprofit sector, the philosophies holding us back, the role of development professionals, and what things we can and must do to move our sector forward in light of changing demographics and shifting economic and political landscapes. And if you don’t care to hear about any of those things, well, there will at least be pictures of baby animals.

Known by fundraisers around the world for his candid, intelligent and hilarious blog, nonprofitwithballs.com, Vu Le is a writer, speaker, vegan, Pisces, and the Executive Director of Rainier Valley Corps, a Seattle-based organization cultivating leaders of colour to strengthen organizations made up of, and working within, diverse communities.

Vu’s passion to make the world a better place, combined with a low score on the Law School Admission Test, drove him into the field of nonprofit work, where he lives his mantra that we should take the work seriously, but not ourselves. His no-BS approach, irreverent sense of humour, and love of unicorns have made him a digital sensation for his own blog and as a columnist with Blue Avocado.
