Manager, Annual Giving

The incumbent is responsible for the identification of community needs, design and implementation of giving programs aimed at Old Boys, parents, past parents, grandparents, senior students, employees and friends. The annual giving program is based on industry “best practices” for the design, implementation and evaluation of both fundraising vehicles and messages for ongoing giving programs aimed at donors of $25,000 or less. The program includes donor recognition and stewardship initiatives, in conjunction with the Major Gifts and the UCC Association teams. The management of annual giving also includes significant interaction with and support of volunteer committees and boards.
Responsibilities include:
- With volunteer committees and the Director, designing and managing a year-round, annual giving critical path and strategies for cultivation, solicitation and recognition. This includes defining audiences, segments, campaigns, vehicles (in-person, telephone, mail, email, etc.), segmented messages and follow-ups.
- Implementing solicitation campaigns. This can include segmented direct mail campaigns, mail/phone campaigns and in-person canvassing by volunteers. In some cases, this will entail significant negotiations and interaction with consultants and suppliers such as mail houses, marketers and information management firms. The incumbent may implement many of these campaigns personally (e.g. undertaking segmented mail merges), while others may be done through suppliers. Specific duties include writing, editing, layout, data entry and querying.
- Working with the UCC Association team specifically on Reunion programs and other cross functional projects.
- Providing effective support and guidance to volunteers and volunteer committees, including recruitment, training, recognition, and stewardship. Committees include the Parents’ Annual Giving Steering Committee and at times the UCC Association Council as well as solicitation teams (Reunion committees).
- With the Director and colleagues in the Advancement Office, defining appropriate reporting standards, developing both longer term strategic and annual quantified objectives, and reporting, on a regular and consistent basis, on progress to both staff supervisors and volunteers.
- Working with the Advancement Information Services team as well as the Administrative Assistant, Annual Giving & Association, inputting, querying, manipulating and synthesizing information on the Raiser’s Edge database, in order to mass customize communications with clients
Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Education, university degree is preferred, preferably in a related discipline
- 2-3 years experience in fundraising (preferably in annual giving) or sales and marketing.
- Excellent knowledge of word processing (MS Word), MS Outlook and database management (Raiser’s Edge) software
- Excellent knowledge of Windows, spreadsheets (Excel), internet browsers (Explorer), and project management software
- Proven experience working with volunteers
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and manage data/information
- Strategic planning and thinking abilities
