Special Events Manager

St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation supports St. Joseph’s Health Centre in its tradition of providing quality, caring health services for Toronto’s west end community. The Foundation does this through various fundraising, stewardship and granting activities, as well as endowment building. Gifts to the Foundation help the Health Centre improve facilities, acquire equipment and ensure important research continues.
Position: Reporting to the Vice President, Development, the Special Events Manager will play a key role in planning and execution of high quality events and fundraising activities. The individual will maximize donor and volunteer support to the Foundation through professional event management, solicitation, sponsorship and proposals.
Events:
- Create a clearly defined plan, set targets and evaluate results
- Coordinate fundraising events including logistics
- Prepare event budgets and timelines
- Monitor and authorize expenses
- Solicit contributions for sponsorship dollars and prizes
- Develop appropriate media plan, advertising strategies in collaboration with the Health Centre’s Public Affairs Department
- Ensure a strategic and coordinated approach to cultivation, stewardship and solicitation activities
- Develop appropriate communication tools
Sponsorships:
- Strategize and develop sponsorship plan
- Actively manage a portfolio of Sponsorship projects
- Research and evaluate potential prospects
- Act as a resource to senior foundation volunteers
- Accompany senior foundation volunteers on calls for sponsorship solicitations
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal staff and physicians to support fundraising efforts
- Strategize and assist in developing fundraising program business plan
Other Responsibilities:
- Instruct and coach the Foundation Assistants on event planning
- Engage in continuous learning and education
- Collaborate with Public Affairs
Qualifications:
Required:
- University Degree, college diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education
- 5+ years related experience
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills
- Event and Sponsorship experience
Preferred:
- Fundraising experience in a health care environment
- Membership in AHP, AFP
- Knowledge and experience with database management software (Raiser’s Edge)
- Self-motivated, able to work interpedently and as part of a team
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Experience managing teams and volunteers
- Leadership competency: ability to motivate others and build rapport
