The Hearing Foundation of Canada is a leading national organization committed to eliminating the often devastating effects of hearing loss on the quality of life of Canadians by promoting prevention, early diagnosis, leading edge medical research and successful intervention.
THFC seeks to capitalize on its strong momentum and recent successes by recruiting a full time Manager of Development to be based in its Toronto Office. Reporting to the Vice President, Development the Manager of Development will manage specific programs aimed at fulfilling THFC’s revenue needs. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Vice President, Development in the successful growth and execution of the Major Gift and Planned Giving programs and will oversee the Direct Response program of the Foundation.

Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Manager of Development is responsible for the day to day management and implementation of the Major Gifts program, as well as managing the Direct Response program and supporting the implementation of a proactive Planned Giving program at the Foundation.
TITLE: Manager of Development
HOURS: 40 per week
POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Permanent
LOCATION: National Office, Toronto, Ontario
REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Minimum 4 years direct fundraising experience
- Sound knowledge of fundraising theory & practices
- Experience in prospect/donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship in a major gift environment
- Experience in working with and supporting fundraising volunteers
- Experience in managing/coordinating Direct Mail programs (both in-house and acquisition) and DM package creation/development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience in creating funding proposals
- Ability to motivate and work with donors and volunteers
- Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge (or other similar databases), MS Word & Excel and other standard computer programs
- Attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
- Ability to manage & work with support staff
- Ability to prioritise and multi-task in a fast–paced, professional environment
- Ability to both work independently & as part of a team
- Must possess tact, diplomacy & creativity
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills
- Strong skills in financial management, including budgeting, reporting and monitoring will be considered an asset
- A good sense of humour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage/coordinate the day to day operations of the Major Gifts program
- Manage major gift activity for specific donors and prospects
- Help to create and maintain a comprehensive stewardship program
- Working with the Vice President of Development, oversee the prospect management
- Help to create and maintain a comprehensive stewardship program
- Oversee the development and writing of fundraising proposals & communications
- Manage the Direct Mail program, both in-house and acquisition campaigns, including the development of DM packages, liaising with consultants/suppliers and overseeing the generation of mailing lists and package production
- Work with the Program department to develop national resources
- Help with the preparation of the annual Development budget and business plan and provide strategic and tactical input to the Vice President of Development
- Other duties as assigned
