Development Officer, Alumni Relations & Special Events Manager

With each graduating class, the TanenbaumCHAT Alumni Association continues to grow in strength and numbers. With more than 4,500 alumni, the Association proudly boasts two generations of school students. Our alumni are central and active participants in every area of Toronto's Jewish Community. The Alumni Association plans to build upon that commitment of volunteerism and leadership among its own alumni to enhance a newly restructured organization with the mission of providing a connecting force that will broaden the connections of our alumni within the school.

Our four areas for strategic growth:

  1. Formalizing the role and relationship of the Alumni Association to TanenbaumCHAT through the development of an Alumni Association Constitution
  2. Fundraising... as the Alumni Association recognizes and assumes its role in the building of a strong financial base for the school
  3. Event planning to encourage more reunions and other networking opportunities
  4. Increasing communication in order to foster strong relationships

TanenbaumCHAT seeks a talented, energetic person who will increase involvement and engagement of our TanenbaumCHAT alumni and increase the number of alumni leadership donors at TanenbaumCHAT. The Alumni Relations Officer, reporting to the Director of Development, will work closely with the other development staff and volunteers to plan, lead and implement programs designed to enhance short-term and long-term alumni relationships with TanenbaumCHAT and to increase alumni giving.

Alumni Relations Responsibilities

  • Researching, updating and maintaining Alumni records on Raisers Edge
  • Serve as the liaison between the school and the Alumni Committee, as they set a course for strengthening the alumni experience at TanenbaumCHAT.
  • Volunteer management, recruitment and support.
  • Design and implement programs for increasing alumni engagement with TanenbaumCHAT
  • Preparing and contributing to publications for alumni including assisting with all of the TanenbaumCHAT alumni communication efforts including: CHATTER Magazine, periodic Electronic Newsletters, e-blasts and webpage updates
  • Assisting Student Services by organizing alumni participation at Career Day;
  • Introduce graduating TanenbaumCHAT students to TanenbaumCHAT’s Alumni Association (includes overseeing Graduation Class Fundraising)
  • Developing & manage a portfolio of leadership alumni donors and prospects;

Personally manage their alumni experience with the school; oversee their stewardship; solicit their annual gifts and visit when appropriate.

  • Implement alumni stewardship.
  • Performs other related duties as part of the Development Office Team

TanenbaumCHAT will mark its 50th anniversary in 2011

Planning now for this Jubilee Year will require a coordinated effort by the entire TanenbaumCHAT family. In collaboration with the Director of Development, and under the direction of the Director of Education, this individual will have the following additional responsibilities:

Special Events Responsibilities (TanenbaumCHAT 50th Anniversary)

  • Manage a clearly defined plan for the year, setting fundraising targets
  • Coordinate all fundraising events including logistics
  • Prepare event budgets and timelines
  • Solicit contributions for sponsorship dollars
  • Develop appropriate media plan, advertising strategies
  • Ensure a strategic and coordinated approach to cultivation, stewardship and solicitation activities
  • Develop and execute appropriate communication tools

  • Solid management skills with a strategic attitude toward fundraising.
  • Ability to successfully plan, manage, and execute multiple projects at one time.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues and volunteers, as well as working solo.
  • Event planning experience, or similar project-management experience, and an interest in implementing events.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to “pitch-in” on other development office projects.
  • Commitment to constant self-improvement as a development professional
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge (or other similar databases), MS Word & Excel and other standard computer programs.
  • TanenbaumCHAT alumni status is considered an asset.
