Anne Moore, CFRE

For her outstanding contribution to the sector, the profession and to many not-for-profit organizations, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Toronto Chapter is proud to present Anne Moore with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Anne is acknowledged by her peers as one of Canada’s foremost fundraisers with more than 25 years of professional development experience. She has helped countless organizations raise funds through successful annual and capital campaigns. Whether her challenges are large scale or small scale, she brings a seasoned commitment to fund raising to meet those challenges.

Anne formed Anne Moore & Associates in 1988 a full service consulting firm serving organizations in arts, culture, education, the environment, health and social services. Her career has included positions with the Ballet Opera House Corporation, the Canadian Opera Company, the Ontario March of Dimes and the United Way of Toronto.

Anne was one of the first accredited fundraisers in Canada. She earned the title of Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) from the International Society of Fund Raising Executives in 1983. Since then, Anne has energetically promoted credentialing, not only to her colleagues, but also to not-for-profit organizations that hire development staff. Anne views the CFRE designation as one more demonstration of fundraising as a profession with benchmarks, theories and standards. It was Anne’s personal commitment and determination that brought the CFRE exam, as well as the preparatory courses, to Toronto through the Greater Toronto Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives, which later became AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals).

Anne has also been a passionate advocate for the inclusion of training and adherence to ethical fundraising practices, a core tenet of the fundraising profession. Her commitment to ethics took her beyond Canada as a member of AFP’s International Ethics Committee.

Her commitment to the profession is exemplified in her many accomplishments with the AFP. In 1994, she was part of the charter group of members that created what was then called Greater Toronto Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives. This has grown into the largest AFP Chapter in the world, with over a thousand members. Anne went on to chair many committees at the Toronto Chapter level, including the Ethics and Professional Advancement, the Nominating and the Philanthropy Awards Committees. She served as an Officer of the Chapter and its President from 1999 to 2001.

As Co-Chair of the 2003 AFP International Conference in Toronto, Anne was able to demonstrate the tremendous growth and maturity of the Greater Toronto Chapter by successfully hosting this important event. Anne continues to act as a mentor to many fundraising professionals on ethical issues, certification and career planning. Her name is synonymous not only with the fundraising profession but also with integrity, leadership, accountability and stewardship. Her long and distinguished career has spanned two and a half decades and has seen and influenced growth of fundraising as a profession and philanthropy in Canada.
