Amnesty International Canada is recruiting a Regional Fundraising Officer to join the Fundraising Team. The primary focus of the post is raising funds for the Branch through major gifts, legacy gifts and the stewardship of existing annual and monthly donors. The incumbent would work closely with the other Major Gifts Officers, and other members of the Major Gifts Team, national fundraising team, and senior volunteers to steward existing donors and identify, cultivate and solicit new donor support.
This is a newly created post being piloted for two years in our Ottawa National Office.
Principal responsibilities include:
- Major Gift Donors (30%) – Cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors by developing and implementing strategies; coordinating proposals to major donors; soliciting major gifts through mail and personal visits; and coordinating visits of other senior staff and volunteers to major donors.
- Identification and Cultivation of Prospect Donors (20%) – Identification and cultivation of new donors for all levels of giving and a pipeline of regional donor prospects for new growth opportunities.
- Legacy Donors (10%) – Working with the Legacy Team to develop strategies for cultivation, solicitation and relationship management; and active stewardship of legacy donors through phone calls and personal visits.
- Annual Giving / Monthly Donors (30%) – Implementation of strategies for cultivation, solicitation and relationship management of mid-level annual donors and major monthly donors and other monthly donors.
- Other (10%) – Participation in special fundraising campaigns; cultivation and communication with other regional donors and prospects; organizing special events; promoting Amnesty’s Book Club locally, etc.
- Accurate record keeping and reporting of existing and potential donors in all programs.

- University education
- Minimum of three years of fundraising experience, preferably in major gifts and/or personal solicitation of gifts
- Excellent communications skills, verbal and written, including in digital environments
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service orientation, and the ability to interact with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
- Strong listening skills and ability to elicit donor giving motivations and interests
- Proficiency with current online media tools for communicating, including email broadcasting
- Demonstrated proficiency with databases and data management, with good attention to detail and experience with CRM or other database software
- Fluency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Internet Explorer
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently as well as in a team
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling several projects at one time
- Fund raising certification is desirable
- Knowledge of social media platforms, e.g. Twitter, Facebook, etc. is an asset
