Job Description

POSITION TITLE:  Senior Manager, Development, Etobicoke General Hospital
                                    (14 month contract – commencing May 1, 2017)

REPORTING TO:   Director, Development, Etobicoke General Hospital


The Senior Manager, Development is responsible for assisting with Major Gifts activities of William Osler Health System Foundation (the Foundation). Reporting to the Director, Development, Etobicoke General Hospital, the Sr. Manager, Development is responsible for contributing to the financial goals of the Major Gifts portfolio for Etobicoke General Hospital. Prospect identification and research, cultivation and relationship building activities, proposal preparation, solicitations and follow-up activities are among the responsibilities. The Sr. Manager, Development will have responsibility for a Major Gifts Portfolio of $10,000 + prospects. As a member of the Major Gifts team, the Sr. Manager, Development participates in all aspects of setting strategy, planning activity and monitoring progress.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):

  • Is committed to the Mission of William Osler Health System (Osler) and the Foundation
  • Participates in implementing the Major Gifts activities and focus, as detailed in the Foundation’s Annual Operating Plan
  • Develops key strategic individual and corporate relationships
  • Provides information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintains positive relationships with all departments within the organization
  • Is a team player, has a proactive approach and a strong commitment to success
  • Attends functions pertaining to Major Gifts
  • Attends and assists at functions held in the community and organized by the Foundation as required
  • Participates on committees as required
  • Inputs prospect data into Raiser’s Edge
  • Responsible for maintenance of prospect files
  • Is interested and active with personal and professional development
  • Other duties as assigned


  • University Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CFRE or FAHP designation preferred
  • Minimum of three years recent related experience
  • Has a strong history of successful major gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Demonstrated experience in Major Gifts / Capital Campaign fundraising, an understanding of health care fundraising is preferred
  • Direct, recent experience in successful Major Gifts solicitations is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in supporting senior volunteers
  • Ability to communicate the vision and key messages of William Osler Health System Foundation to the community
  • Demonstrated professional style that is proactive, innovative and collaborative
  • Demonstrated excellence in communications, relationship building and teamwork
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Raiser’s Edge
  • Holds a current drivers license and access to a vehicle
