Senior Manager, Mid-level & Annual Giving
Full-time; compensation commensurate with experience
Reports to the Associate Vice-President, Development
The TSO is seeking a highly motivated and experienced fundraiser to join a dedicated team of development professionals responsible for building long-term donor relationships in support of the TSO’s annual operations. The Senior Manager, Mid-level & Annual Giving will manage an established mid-level giving program (the “Maestro’s Club”) and oversee annual giving and young patron giving. In this highly collaborative role, the Senior Manager must build effective relationships with fundraising colleagues, direct reports, and staff across the organization, as well as volunteers and supporters. This position has two direct reports: Development Officer, Annual Giving, and Development Coordinator, Maestro’s Club.
Develops, manages and evaluates comprehensive individual giving fundraising strategies, from identification through stewardship, to grow the annual fund and improve retention
Manages renewal, upgrade, and acquisition of mid-level donors (“Maestro’s Club” gifts of $2,000-$19,999) - by mail, email, phone and in person
Personally initiates regular contact with donors to deepen their commitment, identify propensity for increased support, and ensure excellent donor servicing
Writes compelling and tailored solicitation and stewardship communications for the portfolio; reviews and approves copy for other annual giving programmes
Directs coordination of donor events to ensure maximum donor engagement and satisfaction
Oversees the coordination of the donor newsletter, giving brochures, and other annual fund communications
Staff management: Oversees the work and coaching of the Development Officer, Annual Giving and the Development Coordinator, Maestro’s Club, ensuring appropriate training and professional development opportunities. On a day-to-day basis, oversees the timely management of renewal and acquisition communications, personalization and copy writing, and donor servicing.
Volunteer Management: Manages the Maestro’s Club Ambassadors Committee and oversees the Young Leadership Council. Identifies opportunities for increased volunteer engagement, external outreach, recruitment of new volunteers, and transitioning of volunteers. Provides updates to the Associate VP, Development on volunteer initiatives to engage where appropriate
Identifies annual donors with capacity for leadership or planned gifts and works with colleagues to develop customized moves management strategies to increase support
Evaluates campaign performance, benchmarks, revises strategies where necessary, and prepares weekly reports for Associate Vice-President, Development
Participates in planning, strategy, and evaluation of annual giving programs with Associate Vice-President and the Development team
Personally participates in the cultivation and stewardship of donors at TSO events, performances, and through donor lounge duty at concerts
Experience & Qualifications:
- University degree in arts or business administration, fundraising or other relevant subject areas
- A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in fundraising roles with direct experience in cultivation and solicitation of mid-level gifts
- Experience with donor retention and acquisition strategies, implementing donor recognition & benefits, and events management
- Experienced and confident staff and senior volunteer manager and coach
- Impeccable verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills: thoughtful, donor-centric, ability to initiate, cultivate and maintain relationships easily
- Highly detail oriented, results-driven and organized; superior project management skills
- Strong analytical and data skills, including data segmentation techniques
- Resourceful and independent while remaining comfortable working within the framework of an integrated development program and team-oriented environment
- Highly professional, tactful, mature, conscientious; demonstrates high degree of personal integrity and adheres to the AFP Fundraising Code of Ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights
- Advanced level PC skills (MS Office) and highly proficient user of at least one fundraising database (ex. Raiser’s Edge, Tessitura)
- Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including select evenings and weekends
- Experience in the performing arts sector and interest in classical music preferred
Flexibility in hours and ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends (during the September to June concert season) as part of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra team is required.
