Reporting to the CEO, the Communications Manager crafts compelling communications targeting Forests Ontario’s various audiences, and supports the organization’s forestry and education programs and fundraising efforts.
This position works closely with the CEO, Director of Communications and Development, and other staff, Board members and volunteers; manages the work of the communications coordinator, and works directly with the organization’s forestry and education departments.
The candidate should have a relevant communications or public relations degree and 5+ years of communications experience. Government relations experience an asset. The candidate should possess excellent written and verbal communications skills, and must be able to work independently and to deadline.
The Communications Manager is responsible for providing leadership, direction, planning, and strategic management to all areas of Forests Ontario’s communications, public relations and media relations efforts, including:
Overseeing various communications vehicles including website, quarterly printed newsletter and e-newsletter, annual report, advertising, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin) and other communications initiatives.
Leading media relations efforts – from writing and issuing news advisories and releases to scheduling interviews and drafting key messages.
Working with Forests Ontario’s events coordinator – overseeing key messaging, signage, and presentations for consumer shows, and industry-specific workshops and public meetings.
Overseeing corporate graphic standards and helping to further develop and sustain the organization’s brand and awareness with its target audiences.
Working with the Director of Communications & Development to recognize funding and support from governments, individuals and corporations.
Qualification and Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at an agency, association or foundation, overseeing communications, marketing, public relations, media relations and online/social media work.
Knowledge and Skills: Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including writing, editing and design skills. Experience working with staff, volunteers and consultants. Excellent leadership, judgment and decision-making abilities, including strong presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and to deadline.
This is a one-year maternity leave coverage. Salary range of $50-60k.
