The Senior Development Officer, Sobey School of Business reports to the Director of Development and the Dean, Sobey School of Business to work collaboratively with the Office of Advancement team members and is responsible for managing a portfolio of major and mid-level giving prospects and donors and for coordinating fundraising efforts in support of the University’s fundraising priorities. The Senior Development Officer, Sobey School of Business is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the University’s major and mid-level individual, corporate and foundation donors.
Duties as the Senior Development Officer, Sobey School of Business include, but are not limited to:
- Managing a portfolio of major and mid-level giving prospects and donors.
- Developing, implementing, and managing major and mid-level giving initiatives to ensure that results support attainment of the stated objectives of the University, with a special emphasis on the Sobey School of Business.
- Identifying and implementing monitoring strategies and initiatives related to the solicitation and attainment of significant gifts to the University.
- Identifying major and mid-level giving fundraising and sponsorship/partnership opportunities.
- Identifying new donor prospects for the Sobey School of Business and the University.
- Developing strategies for, and carrying out, requests for support.
- Conducting strategic research to determine the feasibility of a fit with donor prospects.
- Developing personalized proposals that match the University’s and donor needs.
- Providing training for volunteers in cultivation and solicitation activities.
- Providing guidance, support, education, and assistance to the Development Office staff, members of the Office of Advancement, University leadership, and other University staff on activities associated with the field of donor relations.
- Providing guidance, support, education and assistance to potential major and mid-level giving prospects and donors about the University’s initiatives and priority needs.
- Ensuring proper stewardship takes place following a gift to maintain the donor’s involvement, interest and support.
- Liaising with and supporting the efforts of the President, Vice-President Advancement, Director of Development, Dean of the Sobey School of Business, Faculty, Staff and certain key external volunteers to initiate, maintain and strengthen relationships with donors and donor prospects.
- Liaising with and supporting University staff on fundraising efforts.
- Representing the University at high-level public activities locally, nationally or internationally.
- Keeping abreast in the field of fund development through attendance at conferences and maintaining memberships and actively participating in professional organizations.
To be the successful Senior Development Officer, Sobey School of Business you will possess a University degree or College diploma along with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of fundraising experience in a directly related major gift setting. You further demonstrate understanding of regional business context; have strong organizational and analytical skills along with above average interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; and strong attention to detail. You also have demonstrated capability with the MS Office Suite of products and spreadsheets. This position requires a willingness to travel. Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner will be considered an asset.
