Manager, Finance

Michael Garron Hospital Foundation is the fundraising entity to Michael Garron Hospital, part of the Toronto East Health Network - proudly serving the community since 1929.

A large, urban, full-service community teaching hospital, providing comprehensive care to a diverse population of 400,000, the hospital provides a full range of programs and services. Annually we admit 20,000 acute care inpatients, deliver 3,500 babies, have over 70,000 emergency visits and provide service to over 200,000 outpatients.  Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Manager, Finance to join our team. A key member of our Foundation, generating in excess of $8 million in revenue annually, the incumbent will oversee the day-to-day management of the finance function for our organization. This position will be required to seamlessly transition our financial systems from our current accounting firm to in-house. The Manager, Finance will build and sustain our finance capabilities and provide exemplary internal service through the establishment, monitoring and improvement of accounting systems and processes.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of multi-tasking, grounded in strong analysis to efficiently manage our finance function. The ideal candidate for this role is highly organized and detail oriented. The position also requires excellent technical, reporting and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively in a small office setting.

This position reports to the President however will have direct day-to-day dealings with the Vice-President, Events, Annual and Operations and accountability to the Finance & Audit Committee as it pertains to reporting.

 KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

 Financial Management

  • Liaises with Michael Garron Hospital’s Finance Department to manage payments and grants to hospital, cash-flow needs and fund allocation

  • Manages the granting process to ensure compliance with policies

  • Develops and implements processes to ensure suppliers are paid in an expedient fashion

  • Enters expense data and produces cheques

  • Using data provided through donation data integration, maintains a general ledger on our Financial Edge software

  • Reconciles of all sources of revenue with our bank accounts

  • Processes of quarterly HST rebates

  • Manage investments including liaising with third party investment company

Analysis & Reporting

  • Manages organizational cash flow and forecasting

  • Monitors cash balances and makes recommendations as to transferring excess cash to term deposits

  • Communicates and presents the critical financial matters to the President and VP

  • Inputs recurring journals for amortization, salary allocation and capital asset register

  • Runs and distributes a series of monthly reports

  • On a quarterly basis, produces the reporting package to the Finance Committee, including financial statements and performance indicators for the period and any other ad hoc reporting as required.

  • Prepares annual statements for donor named funds

  • Makes recommendations on and implement changes to coding structure and reporting formats, particularly with regard to our $100 million Campaign

  • Prepares and submits the T3010 annual return for charities

Other

  • Coordinates and leads the annual audit process; liaise with external auditors

  • Manages the general administration budget and petty cash, taxi chits & parking passes

  • Leads the annual budget process providing analysis and templates as required to the senior leadership team

  • Actively participates in other Foundation activities including events, etc.

Education

  • A university degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and experience

  • Accounting designation preferred

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum five years financial management experience

  • Familiarity with Financial Edge software a strong asset

  • Experience working in a charitable setting

  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Skills

  • Is technically adept, can review data architecture and reporting and will recommend and implement changes

  • Superior organizational, planning and time management skills

  • Sound knowledge of CRA guidelines as it pertains to charitable giving

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and dependability

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines

  • Superior written and verbal communication skill
