Right To Play’s (RTP) Canadian National Office (CNO) is a busy hub, generating funding of $8M annually for RTP’s global programs, and providing crucial support in advancing our vision of a healthy and safe world through the power of sport and play. The Community Engagement team is responsible for raising $600K annually from various revenue streams, including Mass Market, Schools, Athletes and Sports Partnerships.

Reporting to the Director, Community Engagement, the Development Officer is a critical member of the CNO fundraising team. This individual will work alongside the Director to lead the overall growth strategy and solicitation efforts related to Mass Market giving channels, including a fast-growing monthly donor portfolio. This fundraising position will design and deliver strategies and systems to cultivate revenue through a variety of initiatives including (but not exclusively): our monthly giving program, school-based fundraising, online appeals (including holiday campaign), tribute giving, and third party giving channels.

Central to the success of this portfolio, the Development Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and growing our monthly donor and school’s based fundraising initiatives. This position will be critical in oversight and management of key relationships with external vendors in reaching the goals for the Mass Market portfolio.

Working collaboratively with other members of the CNO, the Development Officer is responsible for building and executing Right To Play’s Mass Market programs, which are set for significant growth over the next 1-2 years.


Job Responsibility #1: Monthly Giving (40% of Time):

  • Lead on external vendor relationships to continue the development of the monthly giving portfolio
  • Acquisition: Develop, test, and roll out acquisition campaigns to acquire new monthly donors in a cost-effective way through external vendor and other channels as appropriate
  • Conversion: Develop, test, and execute programs to identify and convert existing donors to monthly giving relationships
  • Engagement & Retention: Develop, test, and implement monthly donor segment cultivation and retention strategies, including:
    • Collaborating with the Communications team to provide program updates and other regular, compelling communications to maximize donor engagement and satisfaction from point of acquisition and conversion throughout donor lifecycle
    • Opportunities to upgrade monthly donors to higher monthly giving amounts
  • Reactivation: Establish systems to recapture incidental lapses and cancelled monthly donors in a timely and effective manner
  •  Reporting: In conjunction with the Finance team, develop a monthly giving dashboard and provide management and other ad hoc reports on program and testing effectiveness, tracking ROI and other key measures regarding monthly donors and their giving, and consolidating monthly financials

Job Responsibility #2: Lead and Support Mass Market Fundraising Campaigns (35% of Time):

  • Collaborate with National Director and Director, Community Engagement to define strategy of identifying, researching, qualifying, tracking, managing, and stewarding Mass Market initiatives
  • Support development, implementation and management of a comprehensive, integrated and strategic mass market program that includes renewal, upgrade, and acquisition strategies across several channels
  • Serve as development lead for the following Mass Market campaigns:
    • Annual Giving (Online Appeals)
    • Tribute Giving
    • Third Party Giving Channels
    • Unsolicited gifts of <$1000
  • Identify opportunities and monitor industry trends to grow current, and develop new, mass market fundraising initiatives
  • Develop tools and resources needed for mass market initiatives, including online content, solicitation language and collateral related to each campaign
  • Develop and implement relationship management strategies and timelines for stakeholders within our Mass Market campaigns:
    • Deepen engagement of donors through effective use of sophisticated donor journeys (in collaboration with the Communications team)
  • Maintain database records, using CRM, tracking contact and pipeline related information; work closely with the Finance team to ensure accurate data collection, tax receipting and stewardship for mass market donors
  • Partner with the Finance and Communications teams to maintain an efficient stewardship process to ensure donors receive personalized and timely communication and acknowledgment

Job Responsibility #3: Develop and Strengthen Schools Based Fundraising (20% of Time):

  • Manage and lead over 200 schools participating in Play Your Part Challenge to fundraise for Right To Play
  • Support and encourage fundraising campaigns with Play Your Part partner schools
  • Lead on relationships with external vendors on school related fundraising initiatives
  • Ensure the effective utilization of CRM for PYP Challenge:
    • Maintain an up-to-date pipeline in CRM of expected donations and follow up with schools to receive donations
    • Including strategic analysis of data to inform, plan and assess performance
  • Work in collaboration with the Finance team to develop proper recognition and stewardship of all school partners


Job Responsibility #4: Perform Other Duties as Assigned (5% of Time):

  • Key participant with respect to annual and strategic planning and operational execution at the CNO
  • Attendance at all Right To Play signature fundraising, stewardship and cultivation events
  • Perform other duties as assigned




  • Relevant 4 year undergraduate degree or college equivalent


  •  Minimum of 3 years in a fundraising role with an established track record
  •  Growing a mass market fundraising program
  •  Running a marketing program recruiting a significant number of monthly donors
  •  Tracking KPI’s, growing revenue and number of donors
  •  Working with external vendors to develop and execute fundraising campaigns
  •  Interacting with a wide variety of stakeholders that represent the portfolio
  •  Project and budget management experience
  •  Planning and delivery of digital fundraising campaigns
  •  Developing fundraising activities and campaigns in schools across Canada



  • Strong MS Office skills/Advanced PowerPoint
  • Experience with online fundraising platforms such as Artez
  • Solid understanding of fundraising software such as MS CRM or Raiser’s Edge
  • Basic Photoshop skills
