Background

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is recognized as the organization leading the treatment, cure, and prevention of mental illness for Canada. CAMH Foundation strives to be the charity of choice for mental health philanthropy by mobilizing a significant segment of the Canadian population offering donors and prospective donors multiple ways to engage with CAMH in support of mental health.

The Direct Marketing and Community Giving team is the engine that drives CAMH Foundation’s ability to provide meaningful and inspirational opportunities to engage a large number of Canadians in the mental health cause through multiple products and channels. CAMH Foundation is currently seeking a Development Officer, Mid-Level Giving to fulfill a one (1) year contract.  

Position Summary

 

CAMH Foundation is seeking a confident fundraising professional to join its Direct Marketing and Community Giving team to develop and drive mid-level fundraising activities. Reporting to the Manager, Annual Programs, the Development Officer, Mid-Level Giving generates revenue from the Mid-Level donor sub-segment ($1K-$25K) and Michael Wilson Society product through a mix of direct mail, personal solicitation, proposal generation and direct donor relationship management for new and existing donors building the groundswell of support for CAMH Foundation and contributing to the total annual fundraising goals.

 

Accountabilities

  • Raise revenue based on approved annual operating plan goals through a portfolio of midlevel prospects.

  • Use a mix of direct marketing (mail and email), phone and personal face-to-face solicitation strategies to achieve approved annual goals.

  • Develop and implement mid-level and Michael Wilson Society (MWS) development strategy and initiatives within defined budget.

  • Proactively use prospect identification, research and qualification processes to generate prospects and implement strategies for driving mid-level giving.

  • Coordinate work with any required outside vendor (RFQs, internal approvals, invoice processing and expense tracking) for mid-level initiatives.

  • Ensure appropriate donor cultivation, acknowledgement and stewardship plans and strategies are identified and implemented effectively and consistently for the mid-level donor segment.

  • Conduct donor stewardship including personalized telephone calls, thank you letters, personalized cards, tour invitations, face-to-face meetings.

  • Conduct additional mid-level stewardship activities for donors giving to products within the mid-level segment.

  • Collaborate with Donor Relations on the semi-annual MWS stewardship events Ensure donor activity is accurately and fully recorded in the database.

  • Be a resource to the Manager and volunteers engaged in mid-level giving activities, ensuring they are provided with effective support materials and other tools to optimize their success.

  • Track activity against targets ensuring financial goals are met or exceeded.

  • In collaboration with Manager, Annual Programs, analyze appeal results and use results to make recommendations to increase ROI in future appeals.

  • In conjunction with the Manager, Annual Programs create annual strategy, implementation plan and budgets.

  • Act as the point person between the Foundation and the CAMH Engage Steering Group (a volunteer group of young professionals) on day-to-day support items including all follow-up from meetings and one-time and annual initiatives, acting as the contact for sponsorship and partnership opportunities, creating and sharing/presenting proposals on behalf of the Steering Group, and attending regular meetings.

     

Requirements

 

  • A post-secondary degree or a combination of relevant comparable skills and experience.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in fundraising.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Combination of mail, phone, email and face-to-face fundraising success.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with data to drive fundraising results

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and very strong person to person relationship building skills.

  • Ability to work with senior volunteers, physicians, and others effectively and collaboratively.

  • Ability to attain financial and program goals within prescribed timelines.

  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands.

  • Proven ability to exercise diplomacy and good judgment.

  • Exemplary attention to detail with excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently using an above average level of initiative.

  • Ability to work as part of a fundraising team.

  • Proficient in the use of all corporate productivity tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook as well as Raiser’s Edge or other donor database management systems.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of

    CAMHF.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
