Development & Special Events Coordinator

Kensington Foundation

(Full-Time)

The Kensington Foundation provides support for health care services offered at Kensington Health, located in the heart of Kensington Market. With support from donors, The Foundation supports the delivery of high-quality health care to thousands of patients, residents and clients.

Kensington Health provides a diverse range of services including long-term, hospice and community care, cancer screening, ophthalmology, and eye tissue processing for transplant. The Kensington Foundation supports cutting-edge research and education in the areas of medical, surgical and health-related services.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Fundraising & Special Events, the ideal candidate possess an aptitude for technology, an excellent writer (editing and proofreading skills), with a keen eye for detail.

The Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the planning and executing all aspects of the Annual Fund and Special Events for the purpose of raising funds. The Coordinator is required to execute all administrative duties on a day-to-day basis and for special events. As a member of the Development Team, the Coordinator creates and implements activities required to achieve annual fundraising goals using tactics including direct mail, e-appeals, sponsorships, and ticket sales that reflect and promote organizational priorities. Principle Accountabilities:

Fundraising Accountabilities

  • Proactively create and maintain effective workflow which includes the handling of a variety of fundraising projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Working in partnership with the Raiser’s Edge Data Base Manager, creating queries & e.communications through the Blackbaud system – OLX.   
  • Maintain golfers/hikers lists, gather and prepare registration materials, manage auction items and other duties as assigned for fundraising events.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of digital communications through the Blackbaud’s Online Express (OLX) system. Direct mail programs and mailing of year-end appeal letters.
  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate foundation and individual donors.
  • Maintain golfers/hikers lists, gather and prepare registration materials, manage auction items and other duties as assigned for fundraising events.
  • Handle all administrative details associated with the Golf Classic Committee meetings (i.e. prepare and distribute notices, agendas, minutes, etc.).
  • Draft proposals, grants and compile expense lists for budget and meetings

Qualifications:

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in an development position, preferably in a non-profit/healthcare development office

  • Understanding of CRA’s tax receipting rules and regulations

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).First rate organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task due to fast paced business environment.

Required Knowledge:

  • Proven proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office Suite 2013 (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrates an understanding and knowledge of fundraising best practices (e.g. proposal/grant writing, correspondence management). Knowledge of the health care landscape and the needs of the aging population and their families is an asset.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Knowledge of Luminate Online and Blackbaud OLX is an asset
