Job Description

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Development & Communications, the Manager, Sponsor Acquisition and Stewardship supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values and strategic directions focused on the prevention of homelessness. This contract position will coordinate the first annual Hockey Helps the Homelessness (HHTH) Tournament in Mississauga which includes: sponsorship solicitation and acquisition (20 teams); sponsorship stewardship; leading the coordination of program planning and implementation including any event logistics; and providing an important networking and linking/broker function with the communities to connect them to necessary resources. The successful candidate will also be responsible for building the Local Organizing Committee by recruiting Volunteer members.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Committee/Organization Liaison

  • Create the HHTH Mississauga Tournament Steering Committee comprised of Volunteers (and supported by HHTH staff) and provide leadership, oversight, direction and support to the committee in planning and implementing the 2018 Tournament. Sub-Committees include but are not limited to Team and Player Recruiting, Sponsorship, Logistics/Volunteer Coordination, Food & Beverage, Mega Raffle and/or other sources of revenue.

Sponsorship

  • Lead or Co-Lead (alongside Sponsorship Subcommittee Lead) all Sponsorship Sub-Committee meetings
  • Actively target and solicit 20 sponsor teams for 2018, and/or where possible, cultivate potential relationships for 2019
  • Developing and presenting creative sponsorship proposals
  • Follow up sponsor solicitation requests initiated by Hockey Helps the Homeless and/or Raising the Roof and assume responsibility for any ensuing communications with these prospects
  • Management, direction, and delivery of all sponsor¢s contractual benefits ensuring their business and marketing goals are achieved

Volunteer Management

  • Working with HHTH Director of Operations (Ontario) and the Volunteer Committee Lead(s), determine the number of volunteers required
  • Liaise with Raising the Roof to help recruit volunteers
  • Source and assign strong volunteers to Captain roles

Food & Beverage/Daytime Program and Reception

  • Liaise with Iceland Arena to organize breakfast, lunch, and dinner service for event day program

Other Sources of Revenue

  • Develop and implement a plan to deliver added sources of revenue in addition to sponsorship and peer to peer fundraising and in addition to or instead of a Mega Raffle. Best efforts will be made to ensure the additional source of revenue delivers a minimum of $10,000 

Set Up, Tear Down and Event Day Management

  • Oversee set up and tear down on event day

Other Requirements

  • Participate in HHTH and Raising the Roof internal staff meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned 

Skills/Qualifications

  • Completed or in the process of completing a Post-secondary degree or diploma (Special Event Fundraising and/or Fundraising Management/CFRE an asset)
  • Superb communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, offer customer service and respond to inquiries and play a broker/connecting function to meet participant/community training needs
  • Organizational and event management or logistics
  • Development/coordination of reports and evaluations
  • Public speaking/presentation expertise and ability to motivate others
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills and experience in the administration and management of large complex projects
  • Knowledge of issues related to housing, poverty and homelessness
  • Willingness to travel
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Strong corporate connections and networks in the Mississauga/GTA area
  • Takes actions independently or in conjunction with others, as required
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Passion for hockey is a plus!

Other Responsibilities

  • Participates in Toque Tuesday and other Raising the Roof fundraising events

 

Working Conditions

  • Office environment (working remotely is a possibility)
  • Full-time (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) contract position
  • May be required to work some evenings and weekends during special events
