Mohawk College Foundation is a registered charitable organization that raises funds for campus improvements, student scholarships and bursaries and other programs at Mohawk College, located in Hamilton, Ontario. We are currently seeking a Senior Development Officer, Academic Partnerships.



Senior Development Officer, Academic Partnerships

As an integral member of the fundraising team, the incumbent will play an import role to establish productive relationships with faculty, staff and Alumni of Mohawk by managing a portfolio of academic partners.  Staff within the Development Program work diligently to raise funds for the College’s priority needs, including scholarships, bursaries and capital development projects. This role will develop, plan, implement and monitor strategies to gain support for academic priorities including scholarships and bursaries, in kind donations, sponsorship of academic events and contributions to campaigns undertaken in conjunction with the academic schools and centres of the college. Additionally, this role will work closely with key staff to identify and secure support from sponsors for annual academic events.  

Working closely and collaboratively with the fundraising team and the academic leadership, the Senior Development Officer coordinates the fundraising program to identify industry, community, faculty, staff and Alumni prospects to cultivate and solicit new donor support for the college. The incumbent will also work with friends of the college, suppliers and community partners to obtain sponsorships for Mohawk academic programs and activities.



Duties include, but are not limited to:

Identification of Annual, short and long-term Giving Priorities

  • In collaboration with the Vice-President Academic, Deans and Associate Deans, develop program goals with revenue targets
  • Coordinate all aspect of acquisitions of academic prospects
  • Work with college senior leadership to develop annual, short and long-term giving campaigns and targets and grow year-over-year giving in all categories


  • Create individualized cultivation plans for a prescribed portfolio of academic giving prospects identified through the Research program
  • Identify potential donors through internal and external resources


  • Prepare tailored packages for campaign priorities as required
  • Coordinate communication and respond to donor enquires relating to new and existing awards through mailings, phone calls and emails as appropriate
  • Maintain and update donor records in the Raiser’s Edge database including contacts with donors, mail and email correspondence, thank you calls, event attendance, and meetings


Donor Communications and Stewardship


  • Work in conjunction with the Manager Advancement Services to track and report on academic giving activities, follow-up plans for prospects and assist to identify new prospects, track responses
  • In conjunction with the Donor Relations and Communications Specialist, contribute to the development and delivery of annual stewardship plans for academic donors and prospects
  • Maintain and update donor records in the Raiser’s Edge database including contacts with donors, mail and email correspondence, thank you calls, event attendance, and meetings



  • In consultation with the  Academic Management Team (AMT) and the Director of the President’s Office, develop sponsorship program goals with revenue targets for Alumni and Foundation events
  • Cultivates and stewards key stakeholders to increase contribution ( time, talent, treasure) of resources to Mohawk
  • Coordinate all aspect of acquisitions of academic Prospects
  • Identify potential donors through internal and external resources

Marketing and Communications

  • Provide input in the preparation of marketing materials, including brochures, website, articles and announcements, proposals to promote the concept of academic Giving and Sponsorship
  • Prepare written materials including correspondence, solicitation materials and support an integrated approach to fundraising with other Foundation and college staff


The successful applicant will have the following minimum requirements:

A minimum of five-years combined post-secondary education in fundraising experience including principles, sales, marketing, administration, databases, and/or public administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A certificate in fundraising is also preferred.

  • At least five years of experience with Raiser's Edge software and the management of data within a fundraising environment.
  • Minimum of five years working in on campaigns to secure donor support
  • Environment with emphasis on data management, customer service, and experience in a non-profit public sector fundraising setting.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a customer service setting
  • Experience and comfort working with senior executives
  • Ability to influence people and build strong relationships
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Proven experience in the development of strategies for short/long term giving campaigns
  • Experience with marketing materials and revenue targets


SALARY: Commensurate with experience + benefits package

HOURS OF WORK: 35 per week

DURATION:  Effective immediately
