About ALS Canada 
ALS Canada is seeking an energetic professional to join our Fund Development team. The successful candidate will understand the critical contribution they will make to our vision - to make a difference in the lives of people living with ALS today and to a future where ALS will be a treatable, not terminal disease. 
 
ALS Canada is a national organization responsible for the ALS Canada Research Program – funding peer-reviewed research grants and fostering collaboration amongst Canadian researchers, helping to nurture new ideas and build capacity. ALS Canada has a role in Ontario, similar to that of the Provincial Societies, providing services and support for people living within our provinces – we help fill the gaps between the healthcare system and needs of people living with ALS. We advocate federally, provincially and locally on behalf of Canadians and their families for better government support and access within the healthcare system. 
 
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Events and Volunteer Engagement, this full-time, permanent position works out of our Toronto office and supports the Fund Development department in the execution of 32 Ontario WALKs. The successful candidate will coordinate logistics and manage relationships with event participants. In addition, this person will assist with recruitment, retention and stewardship of Volunteers, Team Captains, sponsors and supporters.  
 
Responsibilities
Logistics: 
 Incorporate the ALS Canada vision, mission and values in the planning and execution of the WALKs 
 Create a detailed logistics schedule and assists in the execution of safe and efficient events 
 Source necessary permits; confirm all event weekend details (entertainment, deliveries etc.) 
 Coordinate supply packing leading up to and after events: sorting and dividing supplies, lifting and loading products 
 Work with Regional Managers, local WALK Coordinators, and planning committees to create an impactful event day participant experience
 
Customer Service and Stewardship: 
 Develop relationships and provide customer service for participants, Team Captains, sponsors, donors and volunteers 
 Meet and build relationships with Regional Managers and existing volunteer planning committees
 Provide administrative support where needed to Regional Managers 
 Build and maintains relationships with all top fundraisers and team captains on a personal level and communicates with them on a regular basis 
 
Recruitment/Revenue:
 Meet or exceed overall event revenue targets 
 Assist with establishment of WALKs in two (2) new locations
 Recruit the maximum number of participants at events by assisting in the execution of the operations plan
 Acquire new participants and teams and reactivates past participants and teams 
 Assist with local recruitment in conjunction with Regional Managers and local WALK committees
 Work towards increasing donations raised per participant
 
Additional Tasks as required: 
 Provide various planning and event day supports to Signature and Community Events as required 
 Do research and produce lists and reports as needed for planning and stewardship 
 Provide donor supports for event and annual giving
 Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications & Experience
 University Degree or Community College Diploma or the equivalent education 
 Minimum of 2-3 years experience in special events planning and project management in a not-for-profit setting 
 Demonstrated capacity to work with diverse groups and interests 
 Demonstrated presentation and/or public speaking skills 
 Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and an aptitude for database systems
 Experience working with volunteers and volunteer committees an asset 
 Experience working with corporate clients, senior staff and or volunteer boards an asset
 Ability to speak and/or write in French an asset

Special Considerations
 Extended hours and weekend work required from time to time 
 Some travel may be required to attend volunteer and stakeholder meetings  
 The successful candidate must be aware that the physical demands of special events include lifting, packing, carrying and loading 
 Must be available to work the weekends of the WALK for ALS, as well as, Signature events
