For over 30 years, the Assaulted Women’s Helpline (AWHL) has served as a free, anonymous and confidential 24-hour telephone and TTY (Deafblind) crisis telephone line to all women in the province of Ontario who have experienced any form of abuse. Providing crisis counselling, safety planning, emotional support, information and referrals accessible 7 days a week, 365 days a year in over 200 languages. Working in tandem with community partners and sister agencies towards bridging gaps in service and identifying emerging issues or trends relevant to the women who call. AWHL works from an integrated feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression framework.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Resource Development is responsible for generating AWHL revenues through fund development, and the identification of new fund development opportunities. This position is also responsible for the execution and coordination of all communication activities with a focus on growing brand awareness for AWHL. This position ensures consistency of message and brand in all communication deliverables while following established policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Collaborate and develop an annual fundraising activity plan with Executive Director the Resource Development Board Committee in identifying opportunities to increase revenue in the community and at the provincial level.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with existing donors and partners; working in collaboration with the members of Resource Development Committee to identify and establish relationships with new prospects; execute on solicitation including cold-calls for identified fundraising needs.
- Support the implementation of community fundraising initiatives as required ensuring their success (e.g., providing guidance, materials, volunteers, etc. to third party partners).
- Represent AWHL at various meetings and fundraising events when required acting as a spokesperson for AWHL, participating as a guest or developing and delivering presentations.
- Utilize strong administrative and computer skills to complete administrative and data management tasks associated with fundraising on a timely basis.
- Ensure compliance with the agency’s financial practices.
- Ensure all fundraising initiatives and donor cultivation is appropriate for AWHL and is in keeping with relevant AWHL policies.
- Develops, implements, and maintains a communication plan that is consistent with the agency strategic plan and improves public brand exposure.
- Develops and maintains various communication resources for internal and external use (e.g., writing press releases, backgrounders, biographies, newsletters, event materials, advertising, etc.).
- Works with the Leadership Team on the development and implementation of all communications to ensure the brand and messaging are consistent with AWHL’s policies, procedures and guidelines with the objective of increasing awareness for fundraising.
- Utilize high degree of creativity in the development and design of marketing and promotional material including PowerPoint presentations, flyers/brochures, and other material.
- Develops and updates web content to support events, on-going fundraising activities, stories, etc. to ensure up-to-date and newsworthy information is present.
- Works with Leadership Team to maximize web presence and increasing awareness and usage of AWHL website.
- Develops and manages relationships with media outlets, acting as media liaison, identifying local media opportunities, soliciting discounted or cost free awareness and fundraising advertising from media and marketing partners in the community.
- Develops new avenues for awareness initiatives.
- Coordinates the production of advertising/promotional collaterals and distribution to local media outlets.
- Establish and maintain relationships with sponsors, donors, community liaisons, volunteers, media outlets, marketing/public relations agencies and various related suppliers.
- Establish and maintain relationships within the agency ensuring a teamwork approach when appropriate.
- Recruits, trains, supervises and motivates a large and diverse team of project volunteers.
- Coordinates, inspires and supports the Resource Development Board Committee.
- Communicate with stakeholders (resource development committee members, staff team, volunteers, suppliers, sponsors, donors, media, and community liaisons) to ensure efficiency and effectiveness for all fundraising initiatives.
- Bachelor degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive fundraising experience or relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying, stewarding and securing event sponsorships, and major and planned gifts.
- Engaging and dynamic leader with strong management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple and competing priorities and be self-motivated.
- Effective interpersonal and relationship skills.
- Dynamic communication skills with the ability to create compelling materials as a vehicle for revenue generation.
- Ability and commitment to foster a culture of philanthropy within an organization.
- Computer proficiency with a working knowledge of social media applications (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and donor management database software.
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) an asset.
- Flexible schedule, able to work weekend and some evening meetings and events.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and unlimited access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
