Job Description



AgScape (registered incorporation name Ontario Agri-Food Education Inc.) was founded in 1991 to promote agriculture and food learning in the classroom.  The organization creates agriculture and food literacy as well as career engagement by supporting student learning and being the bridge between the agri-food and education sectors. AgScape provides agricultural education directly to students in the classroom by linking agri-food content to the curriculum and offering free resources and specially trained teacher to Ontario schools. Through collaboration with partners, AgScape delivers education programming that excites students and teachers and encompasses all food production systems in Ontario.

In line with its continued growth, AgScape is seeking a Director of Philanthropy to create and execute on fund development planning to support the strategic direction of the organization.


The Director of Philanthropy, in collaboration with the Executive Director of AgScape, will create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization. The Director will implement the fund development plan in accordance with ethical fundraising principles and monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure the fundraising goals are being achieved. This will be achieved through the following activities and responsibilities:

Organization and Execution of Fund Development Activities

  • Work with the Internal and External Case for Support documents to meet the strategic fundraising goals of the organization
  • Structure a comprehensive organizational development plan to meet AgScape’s fundraising goals towards sustainability
  • Cultivate, solicit, recognize and steward a portfolio of stakeholders based on the fundraising plan as developed by our fundraising consultant
  • Identify, develop and close corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization’s fundraising priorities with a philanthropic focus

Management of Fund Development Budget

  • Develop and gain approval for an annual income and expenditure budget for the fund development program 
  • Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities

Promotion of the Mission and Value of AgScape

  • Support current relationships of trust and build new ones with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization


  • A University Degree or relevant Community College diploma or combined equivalent skills and experience
  • A minimum of 7 years of fundraising experience with a proven track record of success
  • Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills with solid ability to popularize complex issues and proven presentation skills
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Word Suite
  • Demonstrated problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated experience in researching/writing proposals and securing support/funding for new ideas and partnerships
  • Knowledge of the agriculture and education sectors an asset 
  • Strong analytical, financial management and budgeting skills
  • Initiative, tact, diplomacy and creativity

·       Strong interpersonal and networking skills and ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders

·       High functioning EQ with track record of professional demeanor and positive attitude
