Job Description

You’re a strong leader and collaborator, a fundraising professional with a passion for serving others and the vision to contribute meaningfully to improving quality of life in the community through philanthropic initiatives – and Kensington Foundation wants to hear from you.

Kensington Foundation is the primary fundraiser for Kensington Health and, as such, funds improvements to facilities, vital research, critically needed equipment, and life-enhancing programs and services for Kensington Health patients, residents and clients. This is where you come in. Kensington Foundation is seeking a strategic yet results-oriented Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will strengthen the important relationship among the Foundation, the philanthropic community and Kensington Health, and continue to build on its culture of philanthropy and fundraising capacity.

Kensington Health, with a commitment to providing patients, residents, clients and their families and caregivers with the best quality health care experiences through a mission of person-centred care, education and research, plays a critical role in meeting unmet health care needs in the community. Five Social enterprises make up Kensington Health: The Kensington Health Centre, The Kensington Eye Institute, The Kensington Cancer Screening Centre, The Kensington Research Institute, and The Second Mile Club of Toronto.

As the new CEO of Kensington Foundation, you will work with Foundation staff, the Kensington Health CEO and his senior leadership team to develop and sustain strong, open, collaborative and trusted relationships, while gaining an understanding of priorities in transforming the Foundation, advocating for Kensington Health and ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation and reporting requirements. A  member of the leadership team, you will participate in joint strategic planning, and promote alignment between the Foundation’s strategic plans and activities and Kensington Health’s priorities.

This is an all-encompassing mandate that will see you championing philanthropy as central to meeting the needs of Kensington Health, leveraging the Foundation’s existing resources and identifying new opportunities for growth. The solicitation and stewardship of charitable funds, the acknowledgement and management of donor funds, the management of investment and commercial activity, and the management of Foundation activities and policy will all fall within the scope of your accountabilities. Staff and volunteers from both organizations will look to you as a resource for guidance and expertise on the philanthropic sector in general and fundraising tactics in particular.

As the successful candidate for the role of CEO, you will have a degree and fundraising credentials, 10+ years of proven success as a senior fundraising leader within a complex, innovative not-for-profit organization, or in a senior revenue-generating leadership role with a consumer-focused business combined with strong not-for-profit volunteer fundraising experience. Adept at leading and managing a high-performance and engaged fundraising team, you have a track record of success in developing and implementing long-term fundraising plans – major gifts (individual and corporate), annual giving, bequests and planned giving, direct marketing, and stewardship – and in delivering planned results.

Your ability to develop strong, proactive, collaborative and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including at the Board of Directors and Committee level, is enhanced by your passion for the cause, your political acuity and your superb negotiation and persuasion abilities. Known for your agile, collaborative and flexible approach to leadership, and commitment to inclusion of diverse backgrounds, values and beliefs, you’re prepared to rally others around a shared vision and lead Kensington Foundation to new levels of success in achieving its mission.
