Job Description

Pickering College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Founded in 1842 as a Quaker school, and established in our current Newmarket location in 1909, the mission of Pickering College is to instill in each individual the ability and responsibility to make the world greater, better and more beautiful than they discovered it. Reporting to the Headmaster, the Executive Director, Development, will drive the philanthropy initiatives of the school to ensure that the vision for the future of Pickering College is fulfilled.  The Executive Director, Development, will lead a team of five professionals and will also serve as a member of our Management Team, Strategy Team and participate in Board and Corporation meetings. 

The Executive Director, Development will be responsible to lead a $10 million capital campaign that has currently raised $6 million to date, through leading the strategy, working with major donors, engaging senior level volunteers, refining the campaign plan, building the infrastructure required to support the campaign and ensuring the campaign reaches or exceeds its goal.  As an ambassador of Pickering College the Executive Director, Development will build a culture of philanthropy at Pickering College by mobilizing, directing and supporting the community of volunteers, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and students to be engaged in the school and in development.  The Executive Director, Development will oversee a portfolio of major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, special events, parent and alumni communications and prospect research. 

The ideal candidate is a successful, dynamic, strategic fundraiser and relationship manager with greater than 5 years of experience at a senior level.  You have a proven track record of leading successful capital campaigns from strategic implementation through to completion.  You have a deep connection with the mission, vision and values of Pickering College and through your tremendous relationship building skills are able to enthusiastically engage, cultivate and steward constituents.  You will bring experience inspiring and mentoring a team and working collaboratively with all facets of the school. 

The ideal candidate has proven experience in all areas of the fundraising portfolio, including securing major gifts of $25K+.  You are planned, ambitious and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  You bring comprehensive knowledge of CRA charitable giving guidelines and practical experience with Raisers Edge software.
