Job Description

Daily Bread Food Bank works towards long-term solutions to hunger and runs innovative programs to support people on low incomes. Daily Bread distributes fresh and shelf-stable food, as well as fresh-cooked meals to more than 130 member agencies and 170 food programs across Toronto, including food banks and meal programs for shelters and drop-ins. Daily Bread also publishes the influential Who’s Hungry Report, an annual survey that provides qualitative and quantitative data and analysis about food and income insecurity in Toronto to all levels of government and sector stakeholders.

Position: Development Officer, Partnerships & Events

Reports to: Manager, Corporate Partnerships

The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Partnerships, the Development Officer plays an instrumental role in implementing and growing a portfolio of partnerships, including corporate, community and team partnerships and events, to support Daily Bread’s annual fundraising plan.

 

Responsibilities

Portfolio Management (30%)

  • Lead the stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of a portfolio of key fundraising partnerships, events and campaigns.

  • Provide support to corporate and community partners as directed. This may include recruiting volunteers, coordinating social media and other promotion, confirming speakers, booking logistical support, assisting with customized fundraising pages, reporting on results, and coordinating appropriate acknowledgement and receipting of financial and in-kind contributions.

  • Steward partner relationships to optimize retention, engagement and revenue results year over year.

  • Provide outstanding customer service and support to facilitate support to third party event participation, logistics, delivery of event collateral, and to ensure that third party events are aligned with Daily Bread values and branding, and compliant with Daily Bread and CRA policies and guidelines.

 

Events (30%)

  • Develop and execute corporate and team events to support Daily Bread’s annual fundraising plan.

  • Coordinate the semi-annual Food Sort Challenge for corporate team participants in accordance with the event plan and budget. Develop and execute an event sales plan (team registrations and event sponsorships) and support team fundraising. Identify opportunities to increase event revenue. Work closely with operations staff for event set-up and logistics. Work closely with the communications staff to execute digital and social media promotion.

 

New business growth (10%)

  • Identify and develop new partnership, sponsorship and event opportunities for increased revenue and multi-year commitments.

 

Special Projects (10%)

  • As assigned, and including the development and coordination of a new corporate food event for C-suite executives.

 

Team engagement (10%)

  • Support in-house and off-site corporate outreach and engagement.

  • Greet, provide tours and otherwise animate corporate and other volunteer groups at Daily Bread.

  • Facilitate and support off-site corporate learning and engagement opportunities.

 

Reporting & planning (10%)

  • Assist in program evaluation; make recommendations based on key findings, report (financial & analytical) and against established benchmarks.

  • Provide monthly reports on outreach activity and analysis on how engagement is delivering increased fundraising revenue.

 

Internal/External Relationships

  • Work closely and as part of a team with the Development Officer, Team Engagement and co-workers in all departments of Daily Bread

  • Interact extensively with Daily Bread corporate donors and their employees

  • Work with seasonal staff and volunteers as needed.

  • Liaise with vendors and service providers to execute events/activities in the Development

 

Education/Experience (or equivalent)

  • Post-secondary certificate/diploma in Fundraising, Non-Profit Management, Event Planning or another related field

  • 3+ years of demonstrated successful experience coordinating partnerships and events in a fundraising environment

  • 3+ years of experience in direct donor relations

  • Experience with volunteer management and recruitment

  • Experience working with CRM database (Raiser’s Edge)

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

  • Highly organized, self-motivated and detail-oriented

  • Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team, particularly in inter-departmental relationships

  • Able to identify, analyze and solve challenges as they arise and make recommendations as needed

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines

 

Working Conditions

This position is located in an office environment at 191 New Toronto Street (occasionally early morning, evenings, weekends and holidays) and travels to offsite meetings, presentations, and Daily Bread fundraising events. G license and access to a personal vehicle is preferred.
