Job Description

ALS Canada is looking for an energetic professional to join our team. We’re seeking someone who understands the critical contribution they will make to our vision to make a difference in the lives of people living with ALS today and to a future without ALS. 
 
Reporting to the VP Fund Development, the Sr. Manager of Community Engagement leads the Ontario signature event portfolio including the WALK for ALS, Plane Pull to End ALS, and the 3rd party community event fundraising program. This leader sets objectives, develops fundraising models, project plans, tactics and evaluation standards to maximize revenue growth, reach and sustainability for the Ontario events portfolio (revenue $2.6 M). 
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Strategic Development and Planning (40%)
  • Leads the organization and delivery of the peer-to-peer event fundraising programs - Develops business plans that include key performance indicators, program minimum requirements and best practice
  • Develops opportunities to grow the events portfolio through market/competitive analysis, data review and identification of new initiatives to increase acquisition and retention rates
  • Continually evaluates and improves program planning, operations, logistics and delivery - Ensures effective donor and volunteer relations including appropriate recognition, acknowledgement and reporting to cultivate relationships with our supporters and ensure the sustainability of events 
  • Creates and manages event budgets, providing regular financial reports and executing events within the approved budget
  • Develops training supports for key volunteers including developing and implementing the Ontario WALK training session
 
Relationship Management (25%)
  • Supports the Events Coordinators, Regional Managers and volunteers throughout Ontario in executing 30 + Walk events across the province
  • Works collaboratively with the Marketing & Communications department to strengthen brand identity, and develop recruitment strategies
  • Contributes to event communications, developing strategic fundraising messaging collectively with Fund Development and Marketing & Communications teams 
 
Logistics (20%)
  • Leads all logistics and event management for the delivery of the Plane Pull to End ALS
  • Assists with production of branded items across fundraising events including incentives, banners and recruitment materials
 
Sponsorship (15%) 
  • Working with the VP, Development, and Event Coordinator, solicits and secures Provincial and Regional Event sponsorships
  • Maintains and deepens relationships with current and prospective corporate sponsors
 
Required Criteria:
  • University degree or college diploma and minimum 6-8 years of progressive fundraising experience, including experience working on peer-to-peer fundraising events, managing volunteer activities and achieving revenue targets
  • Proven background in leading national and regional event fundraising campaigns with revenue targets of $1M+ 
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several project aspects with competing deadlines 
  • Proven experience securing corporate sponsorships ($20k+)
  • Experience leading a team - comfortable having one or more direct reports
  • Innovative leader with a passion for new and emerging trends and understanding of how they can be applied to benefit the organization 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills with the ability to effectively interface with Senior Management, Board, partners and staff  
  • High degree of judgement, political sensitivity and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and results oriented environment 
  • Excellent organizational, planning and administrative skills
  • Proven leadership skills 
  • Ability to show  initiative, tact, diplomacy, attention to detail and creativity 
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Experience with or Working knowledge of the Frontstream/Artez and Raiser’s Edge platforms
  • Driver’s License required
  • Access to a vehicle an asset
  • Bilingualism an asset 
 
Special Considerations:
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required from time to time
  • This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping and handling
  • Some travel within the province will be required
