About the Role:
The purpose of the Leadership Giving Officer (East) is to ensure the overall success of the leadership giving fundraising program in Eastern Canada and USA, by moving donors who are able to make major gifts into a more committed relationship with Ecojustice and securing their financial support. The Officer develops and implements personalized donor engagement strategies for individuals and foundations who have the capacity to give $5,000-$25,000 per annum
As a member of the Ecojustice Philanthropy team, the Leadership Giving Officer plays a key role in:
Actively cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of leadership giving donors (individual donors and foundations whose capacity to give is $5,000 - $25,000)
- Build and manage relationships with individual major donors and key personnel and board members at foundations by initiating and maintaining contact with donors via email and phone and in person at meetings and events, and encouraging two-way conversations with donors to understand their environmental interests and motivations
- Develop and execute engagement and solicitation strategies, including in person asks, written proposals, making phone calls and following up on outstanding solicitations to close the gift
- In collaboration with other members of the team, plan and implement donor engagement strategies including: prospect research; donor cultivation and stewardship events; volunteerism;
- In collaboration with the other members of the philanthropy team, develop and implement strategies to identify and cultivate major donors from the mid-level portfolio
- In collaboration with the Planned Giving Officer, implement strategies to secure planned gifts from individual major donors
- Ensure regular, timely thank you calls are made when a gift is received
- With support from Grant Writers, produce and submit proposals and reports
- Maintain accurate donor records and enter timely interaction notes in Raiser’s Edge
Contributing to the development and evaluation of operational plans
- Work closely with the Leadership Giving Team to collaboratively assign and manage individual, foundation and corporate leadership gift donors and prospects
- In collaboration with the Philanthropy Team, set annual goals and develop an annual work plan
- Contribute to developing a fundraising strategy of income-generating activities for the Leadership Giving program, drawing on knowledge of fundraising best practices, aiming to meet or surpass revenue goals
- Evaluate KPIs and provide progress updates to Philanthropy Team at quarterly review meetings
- Identify donors for profiles used in Ecojustice communications

Education & experience requirements
- 3+ years of major giving experience within a charitable environment
- Proven record of donor relationship management (one-to-one and/or one-to-many)
- University degree or comparable combination of education and work experience
- CFRE or equivalent considered an asset
Knowledge required to perform duties
- Knowledge of current environmental issues
- Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge database
- Understanding of Ethical and Imagine Canada Fundraising principles and CRA guidelines, Charitable Tax Law
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience managing major donor relationships and foundations

- Basic budgeting skills – Has the ability to develop and report on revenue and expenses for the mid-level giving program
- Strategic & Creative thinking – Has a track record of bringing innovative creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organization and/or its services.
- Committed to Excellence in Fundraising - Possesses a sound working knowledge of fund raising and matters relating to philanthropy
