Director, Community Engagement

Status: Permanent Full-Time

Location: Flexible within Canada

Within the Philanthropy departmentand under the direction of the VP, Philanthropy, the Director Community Engagement provides vision, leadership and direction in the creation and implementation of an integrated National Community Giving and 3rd Party Fundraising strategy to meet annual revenue targets.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the development and implementation of the fundraising strategy and operational plan for the Community Engagement channel

  • Develops and implements  the Community Engagement component of national campaigns, integrated with other channels and programs

  • Ensures the implementation of programs including internal workplace campaigns, retail campaigns, community events, Canadian Red Cross events, workplace marketing and peer-to-peer fundraising

  • Plays a key leadership role in response to national and international disaster relief appeals

  • Builds and manages a complex budget including forecasts and projections for all Community Engagement programs

  • Relationship manages assigned high-value Community Engagement relationships and high-value disaster appeal donors

  • Provides leadership to and initiates development of staff and volunteers to ensure objectives and priorities are accomplished; provides regular formal and informal performance feedback

  • Provides mentorship in terms of training and development, effective coaching, performance improvement and overall performance management

  • Reports monthly on key performance indicators and on revenue and expense budgets and projections

  • Ensures all Community Engagement efforts are consistent with the mission and fundamental principles of the Red Cross

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Marketing, Communications or Fund Development

  • 10+ years of progressive, relevant experience and leadership in fund development, including 5 years as senior manager

  • CFRE certification an asset

  • Demonstrated experience of providing strategic direction in the development and implementation of community-based campaigns designed to achieve growth objectives while maintaining effective cost ratios

  • Excellent management and team-building skills with demonstrated supervision and leadership qualities, superior interpersonal and public-relations skills, tact and diplomacy

  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management skills

  • A proven background in community and relationship/partnership development, with special event, corporate sponsorship and independent community fundraising experience

  • Experience in a fundraising leadership role and proven track record of delivering fundraising results

  • Strong communication (written and oral), presentation skills and excellent organizational skills

  • Experience working in a complex national organization

  • Results-driven work ethic coupled with analytic and project management skills

  • Strong leadership skills with ability to coach a productive team

  • Experience recruiting and leading senior-level fund development volunteers

  • Ability to work in French an asset

  • Commitment to the Principles of the Red Cross Movement

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Will be required to work non-traditional hours, be on-call, carry a mobile phone and respond to emergency appeal-related requests. Some travel domestically, limited internationally.
