Manager of Direct Mail (Leadership Giving)

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director ofDirect Marketing, and working as part of our Direct Response team, the Manager of Direct Mail will be accountable for the acquisition, stewardship  and retention of leadership-level annual donors through the strategic development and day-to-day coordination of the Arthritis Society's new nationwide Leadership Giving Direct Mail Program.


Key accountabilities of this role will include:

  • Working with our external partner to develop and execute Mid-Level Direct Mail campaigns on strategy, on time and on budget.
  • Monitoring and managing day-to-day activities of external vendors, including bi-weekly meetings.
  • Coordinating and participating in weekly status meetings with strategic partners and suppliers to ensure deliverables stay on schedule, identifying potential performance issues and gaps in service.
  • Reviewing our budget, ensuring that estimates match budget and prepares estimates/invoices for approvals. Supporting the training and coaching of Personal Solicitors with the support of an external agency, collection and review of metrics and call outcomes, and the creation of Direct Mail donor products to talk to donors about on the phone.
  • Development and maintenance of quality control reports and metrics.


Required Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in business, communications or a related field, with a minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in a direct marketing, direct mail or on line fundraising environment, preferably with expertise in leadership giving Direct Mail programs. A proven track record in strategic thinking and planning is a must. He/she will possess the ability to develop and execute long-term plans based on a strong business acumen, with a deep comprehension of industry trends, while prioritizing objectives in order to leverage short-term opportunities. The ideal candidate is a proven self-starter with strong direct marketing experience who is passionately driven to exceed targets and go that extra mile. He/she will be able to juggle multiple priorities with flair and navigate details with ease while staying on strategy. Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), including excellent presentation skills, are a key requirement for this role. The ideal candidate will be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products, with Raisers' Edge experience preferred. French language skiIIs are an asset.
