The Manager, Community Engagement & Fundraising, Special Events is responsible for leading the development and execution of the Peer-to- Peer (P2P) fundraising strategy for the Special Events portfolio, while
providing guidance to the P2P Fundraising team. The Manager is responsible for developing compelling event communications, recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies for P2P Events that will drive revenue and deliver exceptional event experiences that culminate in donor loyalty and stakeholder satisfaction. P2P Events within the SickKids Special Events portfolio include events such as SickKids GetLoud, Capture the Flag for SickKids, Great Cycle Challenge and Extra Life. The Manager ensures the integration of our core values and donor-centered orientation to achieve the organizational mission, vision and values.




  • Lead the development and execution of the fundraising strategy for Special Events, with a strong focus on SickKids GetLoud and Capture the Flag for SickKids, while providing P2P project management to Great Cycle Challenge (GCC) and fundraising expertise and guidance to Extra Life and other events as required
  • Act as the Project Manager for all P2P related activities within the portfolio
  • Develop and manage an effective participant communication strategy for P2P Events, with a strong focus on P2P communications for GetLoud and Capture the Flag. Communications may include e-mail, social media, blogs, phone calls, etc.
  • Create compelling content for communications that aligns with fundraising campaigns to drive engagement, recruitment and revenue
  • Lead the development, execution and ongoing refinement of the Corporate Challenge program working in close collaboration with the Corporate Partnerships team
  • Develop and execute stakeholder specific recruitment, fundraising, stewardship and retention strategies for various groups including corporate teams, staff, and mass participants
  • Develop and execute a champion strategy to increase P2P fundraising outcomes from
  • mass participants
  • Establish goals, tactics, and metrics for P2P fundraising and communications, and regularly monitor and report results to key stakeholders
  • Build meaningful and effective relationships with select event participants, team captains, donors, volunteers and sponsors, providing excellent customer service, coaching and stewardship while strategically identifying ways to maximize fundraising results
  • Develop call plans and scripting throughout event campaigns, and lead P2P team inexecution providing oversight, guidance and coaching
  • Develop suitable incentive offers to drive registration and fundraising for P2P events
  • Provide input to development of marketing plans, materials and fundraising tools for P2Pevents
  • Prepare presentations and other documents for internal and external stakeholders and deliver fundraising presentations to key stakeholder groups including corporate teams and sponsors as needed                  • Identify and capitalize on new avenues to broaden networks and establishes relationships with potential event participants and donors to drive additional revenue
  • Oversee development and execution of stewardship strategies for all Special Events across all involved foundation teams
  • Manage event website communications and updates, and becomes a subject matter expert on all registration/fundraising systems utilized for P2P events
  • Be responsible for process evaluation, development and documentation to ensure P2P
  • team is operating as efficiently and effectively as possible
  • Identify areas of opportunity for improved system functionality and processes, and ensure timely resolution to any system issues that impact participant experience or revenue generation
  • Work collaboratively with various Foundation teams to build strong relationships to ensure a successful outcome of all P2P events
  • Collaborate with other fundraising teams to identify opportunities for donor migration
  • Ensure participant, donor and volunteer activities are recorded in the relationship
  • database
  • Act as a P2P fundraising subject matter expert for the Foundation



  • A University Degree or Community College Diploma with a focus in fundraising, sales, communications, event management or other applicable disciplines 
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of not for profit event fundraising or communications experience
  • Project management skills and ability to effectively delegate
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of best practices in the area of peer-to-peer fundraising
  • Superior presentation, writing and editing skills and ability to convey compelling stories and
  • messages that are tailored to unique stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrate strong client/customer service orientation with the ability to understand and respond to various levels of expectations from diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with financial reporting and budget management
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with various timelines and handle competing, changing priorities
  • Proactive problem solver, solution oriented, displays sound decision-making and judgment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, creativity and flexibility
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, etc)
  • Experience with relational databases and online fundraising platforms
  • High energy, enthusiastic and passionate about events and fundraising
