Job Description

Ivey Business School (www.ivey.ca) at Western University is widely regarded as Canada’s most prestigious business school and among the top in the world. Drawing on extensive research achievement, excellence in teaching, and experiential learning, Ivey develops future-proof leaders with the capabilities and confidence to take on real-world leadership challenges and opportunities. Ivey offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as executive programs at campuses in London (Ontario), Toronto, and Hong Kong.

With more than 25,000 alumni in 104 countries, the commitment, reach, and engagement of the Ivey Alumni Network is an essential element of the School’s success. In a recent MBA program ranking, The Economist ranked the strength of Ivey’s Alumni Network in the global top 10. Every day, this dedication is seen in student recruiting, career placement, volunteerism, and giving. The close of Ivey’s $206 million Campaign for Leadership in 2013 was great evidence of this support.

With the welcome of a new Dean in 2019, Ivey is poised for an exciting strategic renewal, investing in its strengths and building for its future.

It is within this context that Ivey is seeking applications and nominations of collaborative and ambitious leaders who will bolster philanthropic support and inspire greater alumni engagement to serve in the role of Executive Director of Advancement.

The Executive Director will serve as Ivey’s chief development officer and will partner with the Dean to craft an advancement strategy to support key institutional priorities and significantly increase the School’s philanthropic potential. The Executive Director will sustain and build upon the recent growth in Ivey’s fundraising and alumni engagement activities and play a key role in supporting the Dean as the School plans for a new Campaign. This individual will work closely with the School’s leading alumni and friends - create, redefine, and build cutting-edge products, services, markets, and organizations - to develop and implement strategies for cultivation, solicitation, communication, and stewardship programs for key external constituents. The Executive Director will oversee a professional advancement staff, actively participate in the Dean’s Senior Operations Team, and support the development of Ivey’s strategic objectives as a member of various Committees within Ivey and the broader Western University community.

The Executive Director’s constituency is very diverse and the position requires a leader with a high degree of competency and a demonstrated data-driven decision-making approach. The ideal candidate holds a successful tenure of senior leadership experience from a complex, decentralized and multi-stakeholder environment, and possess a passion for, and demonstrated track record of, success establishing a sustainable advancement program. Candidates must have proven experience securing transformative philanthropic donations and the ability to best position Ivey in a competitive philanthropic environment. They have demonstrated leadership skills, with proven experience motivating and empowering staff to achieve goals while maintaining a positive work environment. As Ivey embarks on their next Strategic Plan, the ideal candidate also brings experience envisioning, articulating and fulfilling the vision of an organization in alignment with both the Strategic Plan and business units plans.
