Senior Manager- Direct Marketing

The Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS), a non-profit, humanitarian organization is seeking a Senior Manager, Direct Marketing to join our Philanthropy Department.  This is a unique opportunity to work with a world recognized brand, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Direct Marketing, you will play a key role in overseeing and optimizing the lead revenue generating channel for the Canadian Red Cross.

Who you are:

Using your well-honed talents, you will be responsible to effectively renew, upgrade and reactivate donors as well as continually attract new donors to support our important mission. Adept at creating and monitoring complex test plans, you will use your considerable skills and experience to develop and manage direct mail strategies for donors giving up to $9,999 for both the English and French market. You will work collaboratively within the Direct Marketing team on integrating marketing plans as well with other colleagues within the Philanthropy team.

In this role you will:

  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, ensure organizational fundraising goals are met in relation to budget and timelines.  You will act as a key contributor to the overall annual budget, providing all necessary statistical and financial information, as well as lead quarterly meetings with the primary agency to review file trends and testing strategies;

  • Manage the Canadian Red Cross’ primary mail programs including: House Renewal, Acquisition Disaster Donor Conversion, High Value and Blended Giving ($1-9,999) campaigns which includes overseeing the development and execution of highly complex Direct Mail strategies and campaigns to ensure maximum effectiveness;

  • In collaboration with the agency, lead the control and testing strategy as well as campaign development, including: creation of the project brief, supply of relevant content and feedback at all stages of production;

  • Provide thought leadership to internal Canadian Red Cross teams requesting direct marketing expertise by acting as a subject matter expert with other teams within the organization, with an emphasis on using direct mail

  • Monitor direct mail market trends in Canada and innovative practices from around the world to recommend strategies and plans for Red Cross fundraising initiatives and priorities

    We’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Fund Development

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive, relevant experience in direct marketing

  • Superior analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex information and to communicate it to a variety of audiences

  • Demonstrated track record of providing strategic direction in the development and implementation of targeted direct mail marketing campaigns designed to achieve growth objectives while maintaining effective cost ratios

  • Superior knowledge of direct mail donor relation principles and data segmentation techniques.  Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge as asset

  • Ability to effectively develop strong cross-functional partnerships, evidenced by a track record of teamwork and collegiality, building relationships within and beyond the Fund Development and marketing functions

  • Excellent management and team building skills with demonstrated supervision and leadership qualities, superior interpersonal and public relations skills, tact and diplomacy

  • Excellent organizational, planning and hands-on implementation skills

  • Demonstrated project management and strong presentation skills

  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management skills

  • The ability to manage effectively in a changing environment with multiple conflicting demands

  • Passion for driving results

  • Commitment to the Principles of the Red Cross Movement

    Working Conditions:

  • Periodic travel to Toronto or Montreal will be required

  • The position can require irregular hours, including week-ends and holidays without notice
