Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of the Innovation Portfolio’s strategies, goals and objectives in support of the Foundation’s strategies.
  • Develop all logistical and other details associated with the planning and execution of successful fundraising programs, including event management, volunteer management, coaching support and stewardship for participants and, donations processing, recognition and acknowledgements.
  • Provide project management support for the development of all print and digital materials to support diverse fundraising initiatives such as – coaching emails, sponsorship packages, event materials, signage, briefing notes and other correspondence as required.
  • Develop and manage participant prospect lists, revenue and expense budgets and progress reports.
  • Adhere to all applicable licenses and applicable special requirements when required.
  • Provide support and problem solving for event participants, donors and volunteers to ensure smooth execution of fundraising initiatives, including handling questions and complaints.
  • Manage the implementation and production schedules of “day of” events and initiatives to drive growth in the portfolio.
  • Develop and update related websites.
  • In collaboration with communications and leadership, develops corporate sponsorship solicitation packages and templates.
  • Build relationships with sponsors ensuring marketing benefits are being met.
  • Collaborate with a variety of staff and volunteers to achieve objectives and coordinate important goals in the Innovation Portfolio.
  • Build relationships with target audiences (e.g. patients and families and hospital physicians and staff), committee members and corporate partners, outside organizations and suppliers.
  • Oversee orientation, training and recognition of volunteer fundraisers and volunteer committee members.
  • Collaborate with all philanthropy and operations teams as well as Senior Leadership on all participant recruitment, coaching, stewardship, recognition and retention needs.
  • Work with senior management to identify and recruit new donor groups and volunteers.
  • Liaise with assigned committee members and volunteers to provide necessary materials, regular updates, financial reports and guidance ensuring a successful event and positive volunteer experience.
  • Supervise, coordinate and effectively engage volunteers in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of fundraising events and initiatives.
  • Works as a highly collaborative team player with integrity and respect.
  • Acts as an Ambassador throughout the community to positively represent the Hospital and the Foundation.
  • Abides by the policies and procedures of SMH and SMHF.
  • Abides by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and works in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the Foundation.

  • A university degree or a combination of comparable skills and experience. Must have a minimum 4 years of experience working in fundraising and special events with demonstrated experience in the fundraising/sales.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and very strong person to person relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and be self-motivated in a high pressure and demanding work environment.
