About Trans Canada Trail

The Great Trail of Canada, created by Trans Canada Trail, is the longest network of multi-use recreational trails in the world. It is used by millions of Canadians and international visitors to experience our country’s legendary wilderness, cycle historic rail trails, explore provincial and territorial capitals, canoe the routes of early explorers, visit national and provincial/territorial parks and historic sites, commute to and from work, and enjoy the benefits of safe, healthy, active living. Trans Canada Trail (TCT) is a not-for-profit organization responsible for facilitating the planning and development of The Great Trail, working closely with provincial and territorial partners, local trail groups and municipalities, raising funds for local and national trail initiatives, and marketing and promotion of the Trail.


The opportunity

The Social Media & Marketing Coordinator supports Trans Canada Trail’s communication and marketing goals through social media outreach, community management and other digital marketing efforts. The ideal candidate is bilingual (English and French), is detail-oriented, a strong content creator, has an eye for graphic design and seeks an opportunity to manage a wide range of marketing projects.


Key Responsibilities


Social Media Management:

  • Maintains social media platforms and online presence by creating the organization’s social media content calendar, posting content and managing interactions (responding to messages, inquiries and comments) on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, and other platforms as required
  • Develops and maintains a social media posting strategy and schedule based on organizational goals, analytics and engagement metrics
  • Reviews and monitors social media performance and assists in compiling weekly statistics
  • Documents and maintains social media best practices and processes
  • Utilizes current and evolving trends to grow our community and boost engagement



  • Creates, edits and resizes design and video elements for social media, digital advertising campaigns, print media and other marketing projects
  • Coordinates digital marketing plans to support brand awareness and fundraising campaigns
  • Supports marketing efforts connected to community events and third party activities
  • In collaboration with colleagues, designs and deploys Trans Canada Trail’s email newsletters
  • Maintains clean lists of newsletter subscribers
  • Assists in updating digital asset management system (online image library and corporate portal)
  • Actively participates in meetings, work sessions, committees, and other work groups, workshops or training sessions, as well as special TCT events
  • Carries out other projects, mandates and tasks related to TCT’s mission as required


Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar social media/digital marketing role
  • Passionate about current social media and digital marketing practices
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and French
  • Detail and solution-oriented, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Excellent knowledge of Mailchimp and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro)
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Data Studio and WordPress
  • Knowledge of online donation platforms and digital fundraising an asset
  • Experience working at a charitable organization with lean resources
