Job Description

The Mississauga Food Bank’s (TMFB) vision is a Mississauga where no one goes hungry. We relieve hunger in Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy food for people in need.

Job Purpose

  • Plan, design, implement, evaluate, and optimize all components of the Annual Giving program in partnership with a trusted external vendor, with the objective of acquiring, retaining, and upgrading a broad and diverse individual donor base. Grow overall portfolio revenue while maintaining an acceptable return on investment

  • Enhance the donor experience for individuals giving $1 - $4,999 per year, ensuring alignment and consistency in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship across mail, email, phone, and other channels

Key Performance Areas

Annual Giving (40%)

  • Primary staff lead on working with our trusted direct response vendor/agency, responsible to ensure alignment with other departments/staff who support this program 

  • Provide direction to grow revenue through the program including, but not limited to, strategy development, planning, and execution for acquisition and cultivation, including direct mail, online ads, e‐mail, telephone, and in‐house solicitations 

  • Oversee the segmentation, solicitation, tracking, and reporting for all direct mail and digital appeal solicitations. Partner with the Database Specialist to ensure data integrity and correct list pulls

  • Working in close collaboration with the marketing department, manage the integration of direct marketing initiatives on social channels and the website

  • Manage external vendor relationships, including the monitoring and evaluation of select direct response and telemarketing partner agencies

  • Develop and monitor budget and campaign/program performance, revenue, expenses, and return on investment 

Monthly Giving (20%) 

  • Develop a comprehensive plan for the long-term growth, solicitation, and stewardship of monthly donors through conversion and lead generation. Increase overall revenue from and percentage of individual donors participating in the monthly giving program

  • Cultivate and steward a cohort of monthly donors and ensure revenue and donor retention KPIs are met

Mid-Level Giving (20%)

  • Execute a communication, solicitation, and stewardship plan for middle donors (1,000 donors), including one-to-many activities as well as one-to-some activities 

  • Ensure an active pipeline of middle donors by working closely with other Development team members to identify prospects from daily/weekly gift reports and use criteria to mine the database to uncover prospects

  • Identify major donor prospects and work with Director of Development to transition these relationships

Stewardship (10%)

  • Develop, implement, and ensure adherence to a stewardship matrix for individuals, ensuring a consistent and engaging donor journey across all channels

  • Work closely with the marketing team to create stewardship materials and ensure alignment with TMFB’s brand

Other (10%)

  • Participate in activities, initiatives, and special projects as requested


Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years as a direct marketing fundraiser, running integrated fundraising campaigns - digital, print, and telephone. Experience developing annual giving strategy and managing direct response marketing programs

  • College diploma, university degree, or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field

  • Demonstrated experience with customer management systems (preferably Raiser’s Edge) or other moves-management systems

  • Detail-Oriented. Conscientious and high attention to detail, understanding it makes the difference between mediocre and excellent donor service. Manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently, with superior organizational skills and an ability to work under deadline

  • Evidence-Based Decision Making/Data Analysis. Draw insightful conclusions from information. Create plans that are informed by research, data, and experience. Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of TMFB 

  • Proactivity/Enthusiasm/Persistence. Act without being told what to do. Passionate and excited about work. Can-do attitude. Tenacious and goes the distance to complete work. Ability to work autonomously while being aware of the importance of accountability. Results-focused

  • Technical. Computer proficiency with strong skills in MS Office and/or Google Apps for business; experience with CRM software. TMFB is a cloud-based, paperless environment

Reports to the Director of Development and is a member of the Development team. Works closely with the Marketing team. Primary liaison with the external direct response vendor.

Position Type:

Permanent, full-time position. Evening and weekend work may be required.


Starting salary of $60,000-70,000
