Job Description

Title: Grant and Community Events Coordinator

Job Status: 40 hours

Job Region: All Blue Door Locations

Salary: $45,000-$55,000 based on skills and experience
 

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Resource Development Manager, the Grant and Community Events Coordinator will provide support in all aspects of fund development with an emphasis on grant writing as well as coordinating new and existing events.


Responsibilities

Grant Writing and Management

  • Support with the writing of funding proposals and grant applications.
  • Research and evaluate funding opportunities to identify prospects aligned with Blue Door’s strategic plan.
  • Works closely with the senior management and program teams to gather program information required for submitting applications.
  • Maintain detailed records of submitted grant applications and upcoming funding opportunities in Blue Door’s grant database.
  • Assist with recognizing and stewarding funders.
  • Support in writing other materials when needed.

Fundraising and Stewardship Event Management

  • Assist with promotion, planning, and execution of Blue Door’s fundraising events (e.g. Coldest Night of the Year – Richmond Hill) including recruiting/engaging participants, developing virtual engagement activities, booking vendors/venues, sending invitations, securing in-kind donations, etc.
  • Recruit, manage, network, and support event planning committees.
  • Sign up, support, and oversee event volunteers.
  • Develop relationships with third party event organizers (e.g. Hockey Helps the Homeless) and support third party events in achieving fundraising goals.
  • Organize, promote, and oversee Blue Door’s stewardship events (e.g. Blue Door’s 40th-anniversary celebration, virtual/in-person tours of new programs, etc.).
  • Monitor and report event progress to senior management and event partners, as well as assisting in post-event evaluation.
  • Develop strong professional relationships with new and existing donors/partners by identifying, soliciting, and stewarding potential partners, donors, funders, sponsors, and event participants.
  • Assist in engaging event participants and donors throughout the year.
  • Represent Blue Door in relationships with select funders and sector stakeholders, as required.

Additional Operational Assistance

  • Support the Office Manager with donor data entry, receipting, reporting, and timely oral and written communication to donors.
  • Positively communicate to the community Blue Door’s goals and work at every opportunity.
  • Attend internal staff meetings and staff training as required.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all client and agency information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in fundraising, event management, business, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years experience in managing events and/or grant writing.
  • Experience in managing committees and volunteers.
  • Proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the housing/homelessness sector and fundraising best practices are an asset.
  • Able to work independently but also as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, research skills, and ability to follow through with a high sense of urgency.
  • Sound judgment, tact, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Possess computer skills with specific competence with spreadsheets, databases, etc.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Valid Driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance. Ability to travel throughout York Region.
