JOB DESCRIPTION – June 2021

 

POSITION: 

Chief Development Officer (“CDO”), The Centennial Infant and Child Centre Foundation (the “Foundation”)  (www.cicc.ca)

 

The CDO reports to the Board of Directors of the Foundation and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Foundation and developing and overseeing a strategic approach to fundraising that is reflective of the mission of the Foundation.

 

ORGANIZATION: 

Founded in 1995, the Mission of The Centennial Infant and Child Centre Foundation is to provide long-term financial support for the operational and capital needs of the Centennial Infant and Child Centre (the “Centre”) through effective fundraising and the responsible stewardship of assets.  Through this support, the Foundation will aid in the education, development and rehabilitation of infants and children with intellectual and developmental challenges.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops an annual fundraising ‘plan’ and budget in close collaboration with the Executive Director of the Centre to identify the needs based on the Centre budget requirements, and the Foundation Board
  • Leads the fundraising and acquisition plans in respect of the proposed new premises for the Centre and Foundation
  • Develops an annual ‘critical path’ for all fundraising activities with timelines and best practices employed
  • Reports to the Foundation Board at regular Board meetings on fundraising activities and results
  • Actively engages the Foundation Board, volunteers, parents, and alumni in fundraising initiatives
  • Maintains a formalized donor recognition and stewardship program that includes writing of letters, maintaining lists for recognition online and in newsletters, profiling at events and personal contact
  • Identifies and initiates new opportunities for fundraising
  • Maintains an active list of grants/proposals to Foundations and Corporations
  • Develops and writes grants to maintain ongoing support, as well as new initiatives in tradition and digital forums that continue to increase funding
  • Provides reports to donors in a timely fashion, with comprehensive reports demonstrating outcomes that are relevant to donor needs
  • In conjunction with the Treasurer and Controller, oversees the investment policies for the Foundation’s assets

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tracks and monitors donor activities to ensure that fundraising goals are reached or exceeded
  • Becomes familiar with the Centennial community of donors, supporters, volunteers through research of the database, communicating and arranging introductions, attending fundraising events to ensure ongoing stewardship and maintenance of key relationships
  • Researches and develops new ideas/prospects for fundraising initiatives using a full range of resources including IMAGINE Canada, professional organizations offering materials and workshops, personal contacts, contacts in the Centennial database
  • Works on an ongoing basis with the Centre Executive Director, ensuring that grants and proposals/direct requests for funding are directed appropriately to the greatest needs of the Centre and that all information provided is accurate and current
  • Oversees the ongoing development of the Foundation/Centre Website
  • Builds awareness and increases Centennial’s visibility in the community through fundraising events, the Centennial website, use of social media, engagement of new and extended groups of supporters
  • Monitors and manages the work of the Development & Communications Coordinator (FT) and the Controller (PT)
  • Coordinates and attends Board and Committee Meetings
  • Coordinates with the Center in overseeing the capital program and facilities management activities of the premises

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • University degree
  • A certificate in Fundraising Management or Fundraising Executive designation (CFRE) would be an asset

 

Knowledge, Skills and Proficiencies

  • A proven track record of fundraising management
  • Ideally, brings an extensive network of donors, foundations, and other fundraising avenues for the Foundation
  • Experience with various aspects of fundraising including development of grant proposals, managing fundraising events, developing annual campaigns, developing approaches to corporate and individual donors
  • Experience with volunteer committees and Boards
  • Proficiency in database management analytics is an asset
  • Experience with deployment of social media for fundraising purposes is an asset
  • A working knowledge of federal and provincial legislation including CRA regulations related to charities and fundraising
  • Membership in the AFP would be an asset

OTHER

  • The Foundation and Centre offices are located in mid-town Toronto
  • The Target compensation for the position is $90,000 to $110,000 plus benefits.
