The Opportunity:

Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is seeking a successful charity sector leader to serve as Executive Director. We are looking for a passionate spokesperson, inspiring leader and seasoned professional fundraiser who wants to make an impact within an exciting corporate philanthropy environment. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of strengthening a culture of philanthropy across a large and geographically diverse business, and will also have an aptitude and affinity for partnering with local women’s shelters and other charity partners. The Executive Director reports to the President & CEO of Royal LePage and to the Board of Directors of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, and directly and indirectly supervises the foundation’s staff and volunteer team.

Royal LePage is the only national real estate company with its own charity. The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is Canada’s largest public foundation dedicated to supporting shelters for women and their children fleeing domestic violence, and for the development and deployment of violence prevention and education programs with local charity partners in communities across Canada. Established in 1998, we have raised more than $33 million with the support of Royal LePage professionals and members of the communities in which they live and work.

One hundred percent of the funds raised go to the cause as Royal LePage covers the foundation’s administrative costs. Funds are directed to organizations that make a difference in the lives of more than 50,000 women and children each year. Across Canada, we support 200 local women’s shelters and other organizations that help women and children rebuild their lives after violence. Nationally, we support violence prevention and education/awareness initiatives with our partners, such as the Canadian Women’s Foundation and Women’s Shelters Canada, and have proudly funded important violence prevention research at the University of Western Ontario. The foundation raises funds through agent commission donations (i.e. payroll donations), local and national fundraising events, third-party events, sponsorship and cause-marketing initiatives. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes an annual development plan to generate support for the foundation
  • Establishes a strong profile and high visibility across the Royal LePage national network of agents, administrators and local and regional leadership
  • Serves as a member of the Royal LePage executive team and advisor to the CEO, in support of the company’s corporate-philanthropic missions
  • Ensures that revenue generation goals and organizational growth objectives are achieved through a variety of fundraising and “friend raising” methods
  • Manages the foundation’s funding partnerships including local women’s shelters and national charities
  • Travels to different regions of the country (when safe!), speaking at meetings and events to inspire a corporate culture of giving back to the communities in which Royal LePage professionals live and work
  • Builds and maintains exceptional relationships with the foundation’s supporters, corporate partners and charity partners
  • Acts as official spokesperson for the foundation and responds to media requests
  • Provides strong and effective leadership to the staff and senior volunteers of the foundation
  • Ensures a comprehensive approach to donor engagement and communication that strengthens relationships and promotes ongoing giving
  • Presents quarterly reports to the Board of Directors and ensures that Directors have all the information necessary to exercise their responsibilities
  • Proactively develops and executes new fundraising initiatives in conjunction with foundation staff
  • Oversees organizational policies and procedures using best practices within the philanthropic sector
  • Ensures the effective financial management of the organization and adherence to all fiduciary and regulatory requirements, including compliance with CRA regulations and all applicable provincial/federal laws
  • Works collaboratively with Royal LePage’s marketing and communications teams to achieve shared objectives (e.g. PR, brand management)

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • University degree along with 7-10 years’ experience in a senior leadership role in a charity, not-for-profit organization or corporate philanthropy department
  • Dynamic and enthusiastic fundraising professional with a passion for delivering results
  • Additional experience and training in corporate social responsibility frameworks is an asset
  • Track record of successful fundraising and donor relations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and inspiring public speaker, comfortable in front of audiences large and small
  • Ability to work with a range of stakeholders include the foundation’s supporters (e.g. Royal LePage agents, broker/owners), Board of Directors, volunteers, women’s shelters and corporate partners
  • Strategic thinker who is action-oriented, creative and hands on
  • Demonstrated marketing and communications experience, including the use of social media to engage with supporters
  • Sound knowledge of budgeting, financial management, Board governance and CRA charitable regulations
  • Proficient in the technologies corporate professionals must use to be productive; with an understanding of donor data management systems and peer-to-peer fundraising tools
  • Possesses the passion, poise and diplomacy to generate respect and inspire confidence
  • Authentic, caring and passionate about our cause -- to provide safe haven from the violence that forces women and children to flee their homes, and to work to make Canadian communities safer and happier
  • As we are a national organization, bilingualism (English and French) would be an asset
  • AFP member and CFRE designation (or working toward) would be an asset

Annual salary range: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00
