Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Advancement and Alumni Relations (AVP), the incumbent’s focus is on strategic direction and management of the college’s comprehensive alumni engagement program and annual giving programs. The Associate Director will expand engagement opportunities for alumni and execute integrated strategies that will be supportive and lead to greater involvement and giving for Georgian. The Associate Director will oversee the development and growth of the alumni program by offering value added activities and services; nurturing alumni pride, ambassadorship and recognition; empowering personal growth and supporting professional development and lifelong learning; and enabling meaningful opportunities for involvement and contribution, which will advance the college’s strategic goals. The Associate Director will lead programs that strengthen relationships with current alumni and alumni leaders participating in the Georgian College Alumni Associate Executive Council (AAEC) and connect alumni with the student population through storytelling and other communications, mentorship and other engagement opportunities. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Alumni engagement
Engaging alumni in the life of the college by ensuring meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, personal and professional development, and events and programs by establishing and building relationships with alumni locally, regionally, nationally and internationally and building college-wide relationships with academic programs and service units to promote and facilitate positive alumni engagement
Managing existing alumni affinity and perks partner relationships, and pursuing new revenue-generating partnerships for the college including initiating RFP process where required, ensuring compliance, negotiating and overseeing contracts and related revenues
Managing the integrity of alumni information in the centralized Raiser’s Edge database including tracking alumni engagement and participation and overseeing the management of alumni engagement technology including the Georgian Alumni Network, Live Alumni, and Constant Contact
Infusing the annual program calendar with alumni activities and events designed to enhance alumni engagement and cultivate relationships and then measuring success of programs and return of investment
Overseeing all alumni communication tactics, including serving as the publisher of the GeorgianView alumni magazine and digital supplement, and all other alumni-targeted communications
Providing leadership and support to the AAEC and associate committees, including recruiting members and ensuring a rewarding and meaningful volunteer experience for all members
Overseeing all program-led alumni award and recognition nominations and celebrations
Ensuring appropriate engagement in the student and prospective student community through alumni engagement (speakers, events, mentorship programs) and ensuring new graduates are welcomed to the community.
Developing and managing an effective volunteer management system that serves as a source for alumni talent and resources for students, faculty, and staff
Annual giving
Enhancing the culture of philanthropy among alumni and increasing alumni financial support. Developing and implementing an annual giving strategic plan including budgeting and timelines, and ensuring it is aligned with the department’s overall strategic plans
Directing activity across nine different annual giving programs, reaching over 100,000 prospective donors each year with a goal of securing gifts of up to $25,000 in collaboration with other advancement units
Providing leadership and oversight to the annual giving team, and managing all associated budgets and revenue generation targets
Overseeing and stewarding all annual giving communication efforts, including managing the unit staff who coordinate and implement various integrated campaigns
Leading the college’s signature fundraising events including the Georgian Golf Classic and Georgian Dream Gala and working with the volunteer chairs and committees
Other
Supporting the AVP in the development of a community development plan for the college in collaboration with Community Development and Community Engagement Committees
Leading a small team including hiring managing performance and evaluation, and encouraging high levels of employee engagement
Managing all associated budgets and revenue generation targets
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successfully completed a three-year postsecondary diploma/degree in a related field of study
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation or evidence of working towards
A minimum of seven years’ experience in alumni relations, fundraising or a related role, ideally from the higher education or independent school sector
Proven track record as a skilled leader and manager with the ability to lead and motivate staff
Strong interpersonal skills with a superior ability to build and foster solid relationships and effectively manage complex protocols and expectations
Proven track record of annual giving fundraising success and demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices associated with annual giving fundraising including direct mail, telephone solicitation, on-line giving, and social networking platforms
Ability to work within a senior management team
Ability to rise to new challenges and find creative solutions by being resourceful and tenacious
Strong analytical, research, interpretative, and evaluation skills
Ability to exercise judgement, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality while managing a large portfolio of complex projects, including setting and managing priorities
Negotiation skills
Advanced computer skills including complex databases, the entire Microsoft Office Suite software products, and other industry leading software
Human resource and financial management skills
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
