The McMichael Canadian Art Collection ranks among Canada’s top public galleries in size and significance. The Gallery, exhibition, and programming space, comprising 25,000 sq.ft., are surrounded by a network of outdoor trails, outdoor sculpture garden and 100 acres of conservation land with breathtaking views of the Humber Valley. Over 6,500 works of art representing the art of Canada comprise the permanent collection, and the gallery welcomes on average more than 115,000 visitors on an annual basis – in person and virtually.
The McMichael is seeking an experienced fundraiser to fill the position of Associate Director, Major Gifts. This role will report to the Director of Development and will involve working closely with a team in raising transformational resources for the institution. Focusing on a personal prospect portfolio of up to 150 prospects in various stages of the fundraising cycle, the incumbent will contribute to the strategy for individual donors and play an integral role in helping the McMichael achieve annual financial targets.
The Associate Director, Major Gifts will manage a portfolio of assigned major giving prospects, and donors, including new, existing, and lapsed donors, and develop strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit prospects for major gifts of between $25K to $250K, and prepare supporting documentation including proposals, letters, and grant applications. This position will manage the McMichael Patron circles and solicit new membership recruitment and renewals. The position works closely with the Foundation’s leadership to understand programmatic content, strategic priorities, and initiatives, and directly contribute to securing philanthropic support.
Skills required
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 5-7 years’ experience and proven track record of soliciting and securing major gifts, developing major gift strategies and execution, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. A university degree or college diploma with a focus on fundraising, project management or another related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience is required. The position requires experience with prospect management best practices, data, and reporting, as well as and understanding and experience with donor databases, ideally Raiser’s Edge, and a proven ability to work well with a wide range of constituents including volunteers, donors, and internal team members is required. A passion for the arts with experience in an arts foundation or similarly complex environment.
Combination of on-site and remote work.
