The incumbent will lead CRC’s overall monthly giving strategy, acting as the champion and subject matter expert. The incumbent will also be accountable for the budget and performance of CRC’s largest monthly giving channels, including Face-to-Face, Telemarketing and Lead Generation. This portfolio of programs is the cornerstone of our monthly giving efforts, generating over $22 million annually. The role also plays a key role in working within the broader Digital & Direct Marketing team to help support and inform online, integrated marketing and mail campaigns. With a focus on creating data driven strategies, the Associate Director has responsibility for programs designed to optimize donor acquisition, upgrade, renewal, and reactivation.
In this role, you will:
Strategy development and execution for Direct Marketing fundraising programs
- Guide CRC’s overarching monthly giving strategy for English and French Canada by providing leadership in the development and implementation of long-term plans
- Create the annual operational plan and the associated strategies
- Maintain growth targets with a view to generate sustainable value and development
- Lead Monthly Giving product development, which supports all channels with monthly giving strategies
- Develop plans for new growth streams, ensuring effective implementation
- Work closely with colleagues to develop multi-channel direct marketing tactics to ensure a diversified and sustainable base of financial support for the Society
- Maintain the primary relationship with vendors at the leadership level, manage overall performance and negotiations, meet regularly with agencies to review results, plan and discuss testing opportunities
- Complete any Procurement activity required related to vendors and contract tendering
- Work closely with the Retention & CX team on strategies, donor journeys, best in class stewardship and donor experience strategies to cultivate monthly donor engagement
- Participate in the Digital & Direct Marketing quarterly planning and maintain up to date information in the shared planning tool to align to other donor facing communications
- Lead the development of emergency fund raising appeal campaigns during times of domestic and international disasters or crises
- Oversee the monthly giving conversion strategies for disaster donors and coordinate cross-channel conversion activity
Ownership of the budget, KPIs and reporting for the monthly giving program
- Establish the annual budgets for face-to-face, telemarketing, lead generation, support all channels to develop the monthly giving segment of their annual budgets
- Regularly complete budget projections, review all monthly, quarterly, annual reports and providing details on variances
- Analyze monthly metrics to ensure program performance is in line with projections, enable solutions-oriented and process driven program modifications when required
- Ensure all program metrics are up-to-date and accurate
- Monitor the ROI for each monthly channel and make recommendations on spend to support long-term growth goals, integrate learnings from program analysis into strategic recommendations
- Ensure effective segmentation and targeting of marketing initiatives to maximize profitable acquisition and retention
- Provide reports for the management team and board as required
- Maintain line of sight into overall success of donation processing and reporting in conjunction with the Philanthropy Operations Team
- Work with colleagues to develop of propensity models and research to understand supporters, improve overall performance and drive data collection
Effective Management of staff
- Manage staff with an eye to developing a culture within the team of accountability for results, donor-centricity, teamwork, customer service and continuous learning
- Provide effective leadership to staff through coaching, motivating, and mentoring
- Facilitate performance reviews, identifying training and development requirements and plans
- Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment
- Conduct individual and team annual goal setting and planning
- Anticipate the long term implications/risk of decisions and plan for contingencies, anticipating obstacles and roadblocks
- Ensure all fundraising activities align with the mission and values of the Red Cross
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- 7 – 10 years of progressive, relevant experience as an outstanding marketer with proven experience in developing programs and campaigns that have driven results
- Superior analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex information and to communicate it to a variety of audiences
- Demonstrated track record of providing strategic direction in the development and implementation of targeted marketing campaigns designed to achieve growth objectives while maintaining effective ROI
- Superior knowledge of donor relation principles and data segmentation techniques. Knowledge of BBCRM as asset
- Ability to effectively develop strong cross-functional partnerships, evidenced by a track record of teamwork and collegiality, building relationships within and beyond the fundraising and marketing functions
- Excellent management and team building skills with demonstrated leadership qualities, superior interpersonal and public relations skills, tact and diplomacy
- Excellent organizational, planning and hands-on implementation skills
- Demonstrated project management and strong presentation skills
- Proficiency in budgeting and financial management skills
- Fluency in English is required, French is an asset.
