Associate Director, Philanthropy
Summary
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Philanthropy Strategy and Development
- Collaborate with the VP Philanthropy to create, implement and monitor the annual fundraising plan and comprehensive fundraising strategies.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade across all fundraising programs. Assess the impact and feasibility of various initiatives to prioritize those that offer the most significant benefits.
- Work closely with the VP Philanthropy to establish projections, revenue targets, and the development of the annual budget and related reports. Monitor related deliverables including cyclical financial reporting and requirements.
- Identify and cultivate new fundraising opportunities to meet financial goals.
- Drive continuous organizational improvement as it relates to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility.
Major Gift Fundraising
- Manage the administration of the Major Gift ($5,000+) program to ensure cultivation, solicitation, reporting and stewardship of major gift donors in a timely manner.
- Lead and manage a portfolio of 30 – 40 individual and corporate major donors.
- Conduct prospect identification through research and in collaboration with community partners, board members and other volunteers; Develop and implement appropriate cultivation strategies, including donor cultivation and stewardship visits.
- Prepare compelling and effective proposal and reporting materials tailored to major donor requirements.
- Create stewardship reports, gift agreements, and other fundraising materials.
- Coordinate the compilation of major gift prospect and donor lists and generate reports and queries to measure progress and goals.
Annual Giving
- Manage the Annual Giving fundraising program and, in collaboration with other Philanthropy team members, ensuring that program elements are being executed in a timely manner.
- Analyze Annual Giving results and identify strategies for enhanced donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade across all fundraising programs.
Philanthropy Department Operations
- Create and oversee the Philanthropy Department’s master solicitation and communications calendar.
- Work closely with the Philanthropy and Operations teams to gather project and budget information for written applications and reports and ensure timelines of funded activities are on track and contractual obligations are met.
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance. Work with the VP Philanthropy to establish and monitor the annual budget, financial targets and related reports.
- Schedule and organize team meetings, prepare agendas, and document minutes.
- Develop fundraising communications, including donor updates and Philanthropy newsletters.
- Supervise, direct and support Fundraising & Donor Engagement Coordinator in all aspects of their role.
Events
- Develop and grow third-party revenue, including identification and cultivation of new event opportunities
- Represent CMST at donor events and other community functions to enhance the organization’s profile and forge new connections.
- Serve as staff lead for the annual signature fundraising event, including development of event timeline, engagement of vendors, coordination of event details, and support to event committee.
- Manage and coordinate tasks related to 2 to 4 annual third-party events.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Progressive fundraising experience (8+ years), with a demonstrated track record of building strong donor relationships and successfully closing gifts.
- Proven success in identifying, qualifying, and securing financial support through various channels including individual, corporate, government, community partnerships and events.
- Knowledge and experience contributing to the financial management of a philanthropy department including projections, revenue targets, budgeting, and reporting.
- Leadership skills and experience in the operational aspects of a philanthropy department and team, including administration.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills to effectively engage with donors and stakeholders.
- Strong organization and planning skills including project management with a focus on attention to detail and accuracy.
- Highly energetic individual with the ability to adapt quickly to emerging donor and organizational needs and timelines.
- Proficient in understanding the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors to foster meaningful relationships between them and CMST.
- Genuine interest in all aspects of CMST and a dedicated commitment to promoting CMST’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with senior staff, faculty, volunteers, and the CMST team.
- Holding a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation is considered an asset, highlighting a commitment to professional excellence in fundraising.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge, is considered an asset, demonstrating familiarity with donor management systems.
- Ability to work remotely as well as at our office location in Regent Park, Toronto.
- Ability to attend events and other organizational requirements on evenings and weekends.
- A vulnerable sector police check is required to ensure the safety and security of all stakeholders involved.
- Languages: Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
