The Organization

Kids Help Phone is a leader in e-mental health solutions in Canada and around the world. Known for our expertise and continuous innovation as the country’s only 24/7 professional counselling, crisis support and information service for young people in both English and French. We have been pioneers in virtual care and e-health solutions for young people in Canada for over 32 years.

Since 1989, we have offered kids, teens and young adults a critical lifeline of hope and support through free, anonymous and confidential services, which research and evaluation shows significantly improves youth mental health and wellness.

Young people reach out to Kids Help Phone’s professional counsellors and trained volunteers from every corner of the country via phone, Live Chat and texting, and benefit from referrals through the largest database of youth-serving programs in the country. Kids Help Phone’s website is a widely recognized model of youth-focused design; offering therapeutic tools, games and information.

Kids Help Phone has served young people 9 million times, since March 2020. From the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, we have experienced, and met, a sustained demand for support of 137% from young people across the country. But our work is not done.

As we prepare to launch the public phase of our $250M comprehensive campaign in 2022, Kids Help Phone is on a transformational journey, one that will change the landscape of youth mental health in Canada. The Position

It is an exciting time at Kids Help Phone! We are supporting more youth year over year in the way they need it most. We are looking for passivate change-makers who want to make a difference in the youth mental health space.

The Associate, Philanthropy Communications inspires donors through donor-centric, predominantly written strategic communications and content that illustrate the need for support, the unique role of Kids Help Phone and the impact of each donor. With a focus on customized materials that support the organization’s major gift revenue, this position also maintains and updates standard solicitation tools and templates on a regular basis. This position reports to the Development Officer, Philanthropy Communications and it is critical to the Advancement team’s ability to solicit and steward donors, thereby contributing to the organization’s revenue goals.

What You’ll Do

  • Developing best-in-class, compelling proposals and stewardship reports for donors and campaign communications
  • Stewardship material development and implementation, in conjunction with donor relations and donor services
  • Proposal research & development
  • Report development ensuring donor-specific deadlines are met
  • Participates and contributes to the annual planning process for proposal and stewardship reports
  • Cross-departmental and external stakeholder relationship building
  • Maintains donor records using Raiser’s Edge
  • Special projects as required

 What You’ll Need

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree or demonstrated related abilities through ongoing professional development
  • 3 years of experience in philanthropic communications and/or revenue development roles, ideally involving communications, technical writing and major gift fundraising
  • Proven ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments
  • Expertise in best practices in major gift and grant proposal development
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience using fundraising database programs, preferably Raiser’s Edge
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven ability to manage timelines and multitasking
  • Experience with a national charitable organization, involving collaboration across regional contexts within a multi-stakeholder environment is an asset
