In June 2021 Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Canada’s first smart hospital and the first net-new hospital in Ontario in over 30 years, opened its doors joining Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital to serve the needs of the rapidly growing communities in western York Region. In tandem, and equally monumental, the $250-million Ultimate campaign, the largest-ever fundraising campaign for a community hospital in Canada, is raising funds to support the local share to build and equip Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and enhance care at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital. To date, the Ultimate campaign has successfully raised $212 million and is well-positioned to meet its $250-million goal.

Now, Mackenzie Health Foundation is poised for a renewed strategic plan and has its eyes firmly set on the future – one that will help set the course for health care in York Region for generations to come.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Giving, the Officer will help drive revenue generation for the community engagement strategy for the $250 million Ultimate campaign and beyond. Multi-faceted in its fundraising channels, the Emerging Leaders Council, Third Party program and development of Women in Philanthropy giving circle are the cornerstones of fundraising in the community giving portfolio. The Officer is responsible for developing mutually rewarding relationships by securing gifts and partnerships in the $5,000 to $100,000 range by actively managing a diverse portfolio of donors. Additionally, the Officer will contribute to and support targeted engagement strategies with diverse groups of citizens, community groups, schools, small/medium size businesses as well as service clubs to advance the Community Giving pipeline and ultimately deliver an extraordinary donor-centric experience.

Working closely with volunteers and the Campaign and Foundation team and equipped with extensive fundraising tools, the Officer will develop and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship solicitation strategies that will provide prospective donors with meaningful opportunities to impact the cause at Mackenzie Health.

The Community Giving Officer will possess a passion for philanthropy, excellent relationship building skills and a proven track record of closing mid-level through to major gifts independently and with the support of volunteers.   Heightened community visibility, cumulated with the Foundation’s leading data analytics and experience motivating volunteers to fulfill their roles as ambassadors/mobilizers will spur success for the incumbent.

Contribute to fundraising by:

  • Develop, maintain and steward relationships with individuals, local businesses, employee groups and services clubs in all stages of the development cycle to secure gifts in the range of $5,000 – $100,000
  • Contribute to the growth of the community giving pipeline by actively identifying and soliciting new revenue opportunities and qualified prospects through a multi-channel fundraising lens
  • Support community volunteers/ambassadors, Foundation committee and council members to develop and execute cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Develop key institutional and philanthropic-related messages through the direction and preparation of proposals, solicitation letters, donor presentations and other materials for existing and prospective donors
  • Maintain community donor/prospects records in Raiser’s Edge so that timely and appropriate donor moves management is accurately being actioned
  • Support the development of a culture of generosity with Mackenzie Health staff to support the Foundation’s Ultimate campaign goal and beyond
  • Collaborate with Foundation and Hospital teams fostering open communication, information sharing, teamwork
  • Nurture and promote a culture of philanthropy mindset with Mackenzie Health staff and volunteers to support Foundation fundraising activities
  • Act as a represent of Mackenzie Health in the community and at the hospital sites as required at events, tours, gift celebrations and plaque unveilings
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 What you bring

  • Minimum 3 years progressive fundraising experience, preferably in mid-level to major giving, community engagement or peer-to-peer fundraising with experience closing gifts, partnerships or sponsorships
  • Results-oriented innovative approach to fundraising, comfortable with networking and cold-calling
  • Strong relationship management skills with an ability to work with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation
  • Experience connecting and engaging with diverse cultures with a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated professionalism and tact combined with excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively across all stakeholder groups
  • Experience coaching volunteers, committees/boards towards fundraising success
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills utilizing a variety of communication channels
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Able to maintain and work with confidential information
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • University degree or college diploma in fundraising or a related field or a combination of education of experience
