Established by the Government of Ontario and the University of Toronto, University of Toronto Schools is today the only university co-educational preparatory school in Canada that is based solely on merit and affiliated with a university.   UTS enrolls approximately 675 students grades 7 through 12 and has a generous bursary program. UTS attracts a unique, diverse community of exceptionally talented students, who arrive at the school prepared to be challenged and guided by extraordinary, award-winning teachers to collectively realize the magic of everyday triumphs, and become socially responsible global citizens and principled leaders.  We are looking for a Development and Community Relations Officer to execute fundraising activities with UTS stakeholders including parents, alumni and staff in support of the school’s and the department’s strategic objectives.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Executive Director, Advancement, the Development and Community Relations Officer will facilitate tailored programs that identify, solicit and steward stakeholders to achieve the school’s ongoing fundraising needs including major gift fundraising and planned giving. This position will also be responsible for coordinating and facilitating UTS Parents’ Association (UTSPA) activities in accordance with the UTS/UTSPA Memorandum of Understanding as well as stewardship and engagement activities for encouraging and maintaining positive relations with UTS families. Duties are undertaken with a high degree of independence, initiative and responsibility, with the aim of ensuring continued support and goodwill of UTS stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have

  • A solid understanding of fundraising and donor stewardship is crucial to connect with and inspire both new and current donors;
  • an excellent grasp of fundraising processes;
  • volunteer management experience;
  • strong database management;
  • experience with peer-to-peer fundraising platforms;
  • strong written and oral communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:  University degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:  Four years as a staff-appointed fundraiser supporting senior staff and volunteers with a proven track record of successfully managing a database and producing reports.  Knowledge of the independent school environment is an asset.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of word processing, Microsoft Office Suite including MS Teams, Google products (including Google Docs, Drive, Google Meets) and Adobe Creative, and database software; preferably Raiser’s Edge NXT, spreadsheet programs and internet. Virtual event platforms such as Zoom Professional.
  • Superb organizational ability and excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and/or collaboratively with other office personnel, against tight deadlines, take initiative; be assertive in completing tasks and flexible in handling a variety of concurrent activities.
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality is a must as is the ability to work in a service and results oriented environment with volunteers and staff.

Compensation:  This position is unionized and is compensated on the grid.  This position is classified at Band 12 on the UTS-USW grid at a hire rate of $65,151
