POSITION TITLE:  Development & Scholarship Officer

REPORTS TO:          Director of Development

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Development & Scholarship Officer is responsible for working with the Foundation’s portfolio of scholarships and awards. The Development & Scholarship Officer will work as part of the Development Team to build relationships with donors, recipients and organizations supporting the work of CNF.

The study Awards Program is an integral component of the Foundation and involves ensuring application process, communication with applicants and donors, and the awarding of scholarships is at a level of excellence.

The Scholarship & Development Officer will be involved in the planning and delivery of donor communications for the Foundation, a vital component of stewardship with all stakeholders.

Working with the CEO and Director of Development to conceptualize and implement communications strategies and campaigns, they will assist in the planning and implementation of communications for all CNF programs, campaigns, and events to raise awareness and funds.

The Scholarship & Development Officer will work closely with the Director of Development to foster donor relationships, and secure necessary funds for current and new scholarships, event sponsorship, and program opportunities.

The Scholarship & Development Officer Officer will help ensure the success of all current and new programs, events, and communications for the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Scholarship Program

  • Coordinates the merit review process (MRP) including communication with members, orientation etc.
  • In collaboration with the MRP, and other CNF staff, administers the grants to selected recipients as per merit review recommendations.
  • Works with MRP and MRP Chair to ensure all aspects of coordination of the program are met (progress and board reports, award recipient communication, agreements, photos etc.).
  • Coordinates the assignment and review of scholarship applications in collaboration with Database Coordinator and Financial Assistant.
  • Works with the director of development in the management of scholarship MOUs, partnerships and agreements with scholarship donors.
  • Develops, in collaboration with the CNF team, promotion of scholarship program.
  • Stays current with trends and best practices related to scholarship grantmaking.

Communications

  • In collaboration with the CEO and Director of Development, coordinates all communication aspects of the Foundation including Foundation programs/campaigns/events collateral, donor communication.
  • Creates awareness of the scholarship program with potential donors, prospective recipients and the broader community.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of the CNF newsletter editing, coordinating and publishing content across various channels, including the website, social media, print and online marketing materials.
  • Maintains website content with current campaigns, programs, scholarship information, and events
  • Creates content and manages all foundation social platforms (including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Provides analytics and trends for CNF team and board.
  • Keeps up to date with current and best practices in communications.
  • The incumbent will work closely with the CNF’s strategic PR counsel for all CNF’s communication planning and implementation.

Events

  • Works with CNF team and volunteers in coordination of CNF’s annual event.

Development

  • Assists the Director of Development in preparation of fund proposals.
  • Works with the Director of Development, to advance new donor programs.
  • Participates in the establishment of new scholarship funds.

EXPERIENCE

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a position with similar fundraising and communication responsibilities – Fundraising Management, Event Management, Marketing, Public Relations and Communications.
  • Previous experience in working in the charitable and NFP sector.
  • Experience with scholarship granting.

KEY SKILLS

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong social media and technology related skills including WordPress.
  • Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project-management skills.
  • Strong time management.
  • Good political sensitivity.
  • Able to work independently in a highly confidential and sensitive manner.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of the profession of nursing or health care.
  • Experience working in an academic nursing environment.
  • Bilingual in English/French an asset.
  • CFRE an asset.

DETAILS

Position:                           Scholarship & Development Officer

Location:                          In Canada – Ottawa, Ontario (remote position)

Salary Range:                   $58,000 – $65,000

Full Time:                         (35hrs/week)

Contract Position:           May 2022 to June 2023 with possibility for extension. (Maternity leave replacement).
