Small World Music (SWM) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Development Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Manager will play a key role in increasing financial support from corporate, foundations, individual donors and prospects.

The ideal candidate has a strong track record in securing corporate and foundation partnerships and is interested in expanding their fundraising experience. The focus of the role is to identify, cultivate and steward long-term relationships with new and existing supporters through various initiatives including events, impact storytelling and reporting. The Manager values working in close collaboration with SWM colleagues and partners to develop and deliver programs aligned with its mission and strategic priorities. The successful candidate is an excellent communicator with exceptional interpersonal, writing and presentation skills, and has a keen attention to detail.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning

  • Support annual planning by recommending fundraising targets, revenue and expense budget reflecting new funding opportunities and the successful stewardship of existing and renewal of partners and donors
  • Engage in strategic planning activities to develop and implement department  and shared KPIs in alignment with SWM priorities

Collaboration and Relationship Management

  • Foster positive and productive working relationships as a member of the SWM team, supporting colleagues to achieve collective goals and priorities
  • Collaborate with the Marketing, Programming and Operations teams to identify fundraising and stewardship opportunities
  • Cultivate and steward working relationships with all stakeholders, focused on retention, annual reporting, acknowledgement, and recognition, ensuring they remain as rewarding for our partners as they are for us

Corporations and Foundations

  • Manage a prospect pipeline of potential funders, including corporations and foundations, interested in supporting diversity and community-building, artist training and support
  • Lead the creation of proposals, in collaboration with Programming and Marketing teams, to showcase the alignment between SWM’s mission and a prospect’s interests and goals

Annual Giving and Donor Management

  • Assist with thoughtful creation, planning and execution of campaigns throughout the year
  • Support the Director of Development in establishing and implementing an effective engagement strategy to steward current supporters and cultivate prospects
  • Manage and maintain accurate donor database and correspondence records, tracking individual interests, insights, and impact
  • Ensure that all Canadian Revenue Agency standards for charitable giving are upheld in the functions of tax receipting, privacy, etc.

Grant Applications, Reporting, and Compliance

  • Manage and execute grant administration, in collaboration with Director of Development, to oversee timelines, deliverables, reporting and recognition and coordinating with other departments to meet requirements
  • Coordinate with internal teams to gather data and insights for grant applications and reports, such as program outcomes and impact metrics
  • Maintain organized grant records including complete application packages, correspondence, agreements/contracts, payments, and reports
  • In all matters relating to donors, corporate partners, institutional funders,  and other company business, ensure that all information is kept confidential and handled in an ethical manner

Event Planning and Execution

  • Lead the planning and implementation of donor cultivation and stewardship engagements, including appreciation events and leveraging SWM performances
  • Provide key support during Music Series, Global Toronto, and Festival to bolster funder engagement and stewardship activities, including receptions and events
  • Develop post-event engagement strategy to gain feedback and insight towards improvement

Impact Tracking

  • Oversee the collection of programming data and metrics from teams across the organization
  • Support data analysis and the development of materials, including written and multimedia products to communicate impact internally and external stakeholders through

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years work experience in fundraising, nonprofit environment, or a related field
  • Interest in Small World Music’s mission and mandate, including an appreciation of the urgent need to address systemic inequity and better serve marginalized artists and communities
  • Demonstrated success in securing revenue from corporate entities and foundations; grant and proposal writing, reporting, and upholding compliance requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior writing skills with an exceptional attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to present clearly and persuasively
  • Experience in event planning and management of cultivation and stewardship engagements
  • A natural team player who works collaboratively across the organization committed to our mission and values
  • An organized, proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Knowledge of fundraising software and experience with database management, metrics analysis and impact reporting
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Ability to work with flexibility, including in-person meetings with partners and prospects in the Toronto area, and evening and weekend donor engagements
