Development Officer, Major Gifts & Corporate Partnerships
POSITION SUMMARY
The Development Officer will join the passionate and growing team at Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health (the “Foundation”) as we embark on our first ever comprehensive fundraising campaign supporting the critical and revolutionary work of Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (“Ontario Shores”). This exciting opportunity is your chance to be part of a newly established, high performing team driven to inspire change and elevate the public profile of Ontario Shores while raising vital funds for the most complex mental health care and treatment at a time when the need is greater than ever.
The key to success in this role is your proven ability to develop and deepen meaningful and authentic relationships with donors and prospects with focused attention on securing gifts of $10,000 and above to support the key priorities of Ontario Shores. You will bring an entrepreneurial, strategic and process-driven approach to relationship building. You have demonstrated experience working with major gift donors and are comfortable making 5- and 6-figure asks.

As the Development Officer, you will play a critically important role in reimagining the Foundation, developing and supporting strategies and initiatives that have never before been undertaken here. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Collaborate with the CEO and Foundation team to support the development of a comprehensive campaign plan and develop and deliver on the annual business plan and budget cycles
- Develop and execute strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a pipeline of prospects and donors (individuals, corporations and foundations) to build and sustain a robust pipeline and deepen donor relationships
- Manage a personal portfolio of up to 125 prospects and donors with solid cultivation and stewardship strategies
- Solicit and facilitate major gifts, planned gifts, and corporate sponsorships and partnerships with the capacity of $10,000 and above; and execute various types of donor/gift agreements, including grants, bequests and multi-year pledge commitments
- Develop and execute strategies to establish and promote planned giving opportunities and vehicles
- In collaboration with the Manager, Campaign & Donor Experience develop tailored stewardship and recognition plans to ensure donors are appropriately and meaningfully acknowledged and appreciated in keeping with donor expectations and established standards and guidelines
- Curate and produce donor communications materials including case for support documents, customized proposals, briefing notes, presentation decks, gift agreements, gratitude correspondence and impact reports aligned with hospital priorities
- Conduct prospect research to identify and qualify potential donors and produce reports as required
- Develop and monitor fundraising revenue and expense budgets and provide regular results and projection reports and analysis
- Maintain donor and prospect records and moves management system including tracking interactions, producing reports and analyzing results
- Support the Campaign Cabinet, Fundraising Advisory Committee and Foundation Board of Directors as required, including meeting support, conducting prospect review meetings, coaching and partnering with volunteers on solicitation strategies and prospect clearance
- Attend community events and engagement opportunities to cultivate and build relationships and elevate the Ontario Shores’ brand
- Build strong and meaningful relationships with Ontario Shores staff, physicians and leadership garnering knowledge and expertise about Ontario Shores and mental health care needs and treatment in general
- Participate as an active and positive member of the Foundation and Hospital team, with strong passion for the Hospital and mental health and, as an extension, become an advocate and ambassador for both the Foundation and Hospital; which means supporting and attending all signature events and providing team support as necessary at the discretion of the CEO
KEY QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
- Minimum 3 years fundraising and major gift experience, with comfort closing 5- and 6-figure gifts
- Demonstrated passion for mental health specifically and healthcare fundraising in general
- University degree or College diploma in related field
- Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills with proven ability to persuasively and authentically connect with a wide variety of audiences
- Superior verbal and written communications skills; experience with public speaking/presentations is an asset
- Capacity and desire to thrive as part of a small, collaborative and high performing team
- Collaborative, flexible learner who welcomes feedback and strives for excellence with drive to succeed and propel major gifts/fundraising programs forward
- Meticulous attention to detail with excellent project and time management skills, with proven ability to effectively manage and meet multiple priorities and timelines
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office and fundraising databases (ie: Raiser’s Edge NXT); digital, social, email and web platform experience also an asset
- Strong, professional presence with excellent judgement and diplomacy; discretion and tact in handling confidential information
- Knowledge of/residence in Durham Region is an asset
