Director, Comprehensive Campaign

United Way Greater Toronto is looking for an experienced and strategic Director, Comprehensive Campaign, to join our team at our Toronto office.

Reporting to the Vice President, Philanthropy & Marketing, the Director, Comprehensive Campaign, will work with the Vice President, Philanthropy & Marketing and departmental directors and be responsible for designing strategy and leading the execution of a cross-functional workplan for a new comprehensive multiyear fundraising plan to enable significant revenue growth for United Way Greater Toronto (UWGT).

 

What you’ll do:

Passionate about United Way’s mission and committed to inclusive philanthropy, the incumbent will lead the strategy and collaborate with other leaders on the execution of the comprehensive campaign that ultimately attracts and grow relationships with donors that result in major, transformative gifts, and multi-year commitments for a new comprehensive fundraising campaign.

  • Work with senior leadership to establish long term strategies, and annual business plans to enable revenue growth of at least $125M through a new multi-year comprehensive fundraising campaign focused on securing transformative and major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Build and lead a high-performance team responsible for the development of fundable opportunities and donor proposals, managing prospect research and relationship mapping, and creation of long-term stewardship and recognition opportunities
  • Build and lead the prospect research and relationship mapping team to identify major individual donors, foundations and corporate partners to support the fundraising targets
  • Work with the marketing, donor experience and events teams to develop exceptional experiences and stewardship for donors
  • Provide leadership, training, and support to the Individual and Corporate fundraising teams to execute on the comprehensive campaign and secure gifts in support of campaign targets
  • In collaboration with leadership across the organization and fundraising team to connect directly with donors and prospects at any point in the donor life cycle from identification to stewardship
  • Work with the operations and fundraising teams to ensure excellent delivery of donor experience including donor agreements, CRM and internal systems and databases
  • Develop an annual budget and business plan to achieve the program objectives, assessing progress, and recommending/implementing appropriate changes.
  • Own and drive key business metrics including reviewing best practice models from across the country/industry
  • Identify and manage risks through appropriate risk mitigation strategies

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • 10+ years progressive management experience and a minimum of 5 years proven experience in a senior leadership role with responsibility for fundraising and donor experiences throughout the lifecycle
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising trends, methods and principles and experience leading large-scale campaigns
  • Track record of personally cultivating and successfully managing relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and senior volunteers
  • Strong influencing skills, openness to new ideas, patience and persistence – able to build consensus in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Excellent people manager with the ability to empower and mentor a team with a variety of portfolios
  • Willingness to actively lead the implementation of UWGT’s Reconciliation and Equity Action Plan, and translate anti-oppressive, and anti-racist learnings into action internally and externally
  • Strategic, big picture thinker with a superior ability to develop pragmatic solutions and efficient processes
  • High energy, enthusiasm and a demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Highly organized and accurate with excellent attention to detail
  • Creative, flexible and able to handle complexity and ambiguity
  • Ability to travel occasionally during the weekend and be available outside of regular working hours
