Job Summary:

Director, Engagement Services manages and mentors the team members responsible for day-to-day operations, specifically for community development, donor stewardship, alumni engagement, sponsorship, annual giving, associated communications and promotional materials, and various external committees and councils in support of the university. This position supports the campaign and needs of the university by developing, implementing and optimizing strong fundraising programs that grow annual and planned giving results and strengthen the donor pipeline for Ontario Tech.

Nature of work:

The Director, Engagement Services reports to Vice-President, External Relations and Advancement and works collaboratively with the Director, Philanthropy and the rest of the senior management team in External Relations and Advancement.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Oversee a complex advancement, campaign and alumni communications schedule and ensure timely, accurate, results-focused production of all communication and promotional materials (including the major campaign) across platforms and mediums.
  • Serve as chief editor for all advancement, campaign and alumni publications.
  • Work hand in hand with Communications and Marketing team to ensure coordinated communications across the university and to the external community.
  • Manage and mentor team members responsible for day-to-day operations, specifically for community development, donor stewardship, alumni engagement, sponsorship, annual giving, associated communications and promo materials and volunteer management.
  • Support the campaign and needs of the university by developing, implementing and optimizing strong fundraising programs that grow annual and planned giving results and strengthen the donor pipeline for Ontario Tech.
  • Provide leadership and strategic guidance to the volunteer Alumni Association, Women for STEM Council, Friends of Ontario Tech Committee and various other third party supporters.
  • Grow the culture of giving within the Ontario Tech family.
  • Nurture and develop effective relationships with colleagues across the university to support internal and external fundraising strategies, community engagement strategies, stewardship strategies, as well as alumni engagement.

  • Self-driven, self-disciplined and results oriented.
  • A storyteller who understands what motivates and inspires donors, and can successfully utilize this in conveying the university’s story.
  • Has a passion for new and innovative ways of doing things.
  • Creative; able to identify and develop new opportunities and adapt to changing situations.
  • Proven relationship management, project management and management experience.
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to strengthen relationships with faculty, staff and alumni to establish a culture of philanthropy and encourage a co-operative approach to meeting revenue goals.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and web software applications, and client/donor relations management software.

Required Education:

  • A University Program consisting of 4 Academic years in business, marketing, management, communications or related discipline or equivalent education and proven relevant experience.

Required Experience:

  • Over 5 years and including 7 years in a fundraising and alumni environment; post-secondary preferred.
  • Over 5 years and including 7 years in creating innovative and timely advancement and campaign materials.
